Here are the progress pics. I want to make sure the textures right first before I apply a normal, ambient occlusion and specular map. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_LMXl-w2J5nE/TQUoufp7coI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/0xDMmyAzXGw/s1600/axe_side_texturev01.pnghttp://1.bp.blogspot.com/_LMXl-w2J5nE/TQUos9rypnI/AAAAAAAAAFI/LA9JPOJrHNY/s1600/axe_persp_texturev01.pnghttp://1.bp.blogspot.com/_LMXl-w2J5nE/TQUosTucwgI/AAAAAAAAAFA/5OIepgQxqb0/s1600/war_axe_reference.jpg

The texture looks too grunge and too cloudy. If you look at the concept art, dirt are more subtle. I would suggest this: use a grey base color and then overlay some metal pictures, with a low opacity, then have fun with dirt brush! :)

Use some texture beveling. See the picture for what I mean http://s7.postimage.org/93sy7z3vd/Texture_Beveling.jpg
(just a quick example so it doesn't look that good, but you can see what I mean)
