Hey yall.. jumpin' in a little late, but well on my way. I didn't scan in my concept yet, but I have a sketch done too.. I'm pulling most of my ref from Legacy at this point, and I would like to design a light cycle as well. Do I need to start a separate thread for that too? or should I just go for it?

he's unwrapped and I added a sword.

nice work so far, liking the soles of the boots - if textured right these could work well.
Might want to extend the length of the thighs (is this the challenge of little legs?) - they are probably human size but a little exaggeration can go a long way.

cool Thanks Hawken.. yeah some exaggeration in the legs would work great.. over-extending that "S" curve would look really dynamic too.

Ty sir :) I still have to design the arm guard yet... but colors coming soon!

The overall shapes and silhouette are interesting, really solid.
I'm waiting to see more texture WIP ^^

END OF LINE.. :)

here's an updated version of my guy.. only had time to make some new maps tonight: refined diffuse, added emissive, and specular maps.. using the 3 point light shader to show them in real time-- hope that's legal in terms of presentation..
12-13-2010, 11:50 PM
Looking rad, duder. TBH, I think I almost like it more without the emissive textures. Like if you actually painted in some glow to the straight diffuse, it might look better. The emissive sort of blows out the lighting, making it just look glowy instead of coming from a real light source.

more updates.. rigged.. playing w/ cool poses.. there are issues w/ the rig, but I'm doing my best on that...
@ Joshua-- hey man.. I hear ya on the glowiness. the texture bleeds out a bit and the texture get's a little muddy... It has a bit to do w/ the shader I'm using.. I will probably end up going back to my original standard Max shader and work w/ that.. the effect looks the most solid.. I'm using the 3Point shader to play w/ getting my specular map working.. I think the effect looks cool, but it kinda goes against the comp rules a bit w/ the pixel blending (if i'm even saying that right.. I'm not sure)

My layout for the Editor shot

working on my light cycle design now.. will probably get it unrapped tonight to start painting on it tomorrow

HAHAHA sweet ride. I really dig the shape.
12-16-2010, 10:49 PM
sweet ride bro

hehe thanks for the nice words gents :)
update to my lightcycle.. all unwrapped
12-17-2010, 05:53 PM
drew up a concept for my bike, today.. nailing down what the texture should be
12-17-2010, 06:13 PM
I really like your concept man, so cool so far !
I'm waiting to see this texture :D
12-17-2010, 06:59 PM
Thanks Arkhange :)

yup nice drawing,
you could squeeze out another 20-60 tris by removing some of the symmetry generated edges at the center especially inside the wheels. Don't waste the triangles ;)
12-18-2010, 05:45 PM
yeah I was debating whether or not to get rid of those tris in the wheels.. turns out the UVs fit just fine in my layout w/o having to go crazy and redo a whole lot.. I was even able to fix some proportions to the bike and match it closer to the concept w/o even going over 1k tris..i'm at 986 tries now

Here's a little update for my bike, and a small scene.. I'm building a full environment to spec, but working on that at them moment..
12-25-2010, 02:44 PM
Amazing work !

Here is progress on my level/scene.. I have my beauty and in-game shots in the works..I believe I went over my texture budget, but I ran into a problem with the large structures. I originally painted them at 256, and their texture didn't hold very well, so I re-painted them at 512. And I admit that I'm using some Disney Concept art for my viewport background-- so that's not my work.. bah.. running out of time here.. and being that it's the Christmas holiday isn't helping very much.. I'm going to turn most of this in now, but I will probably noodle at the structure's texture a bit more because it looks pretty sloppy and unloved..

This turned out really great - one of my favorites. The bike design is a nice mix of Akira and Tron!
12-27-2010, 09:56 AM
hehe yup yup.. Akira was one of my refs for sure.. thanks very much :)

Really nice work!!!
