Quick mesh. Just trying to nut out proportions.

Awesome proportions so far!

Thanks deadpixl.

Still working on proportions a little bit but I am fairly happy with them now. Currently he is on 1012 tri's. Going to move onto texture and possibly kill a few more tri's so I can add a few extra things.

Started the texture. Going for a kind of old and new blend.

Thanks :)

Started dicking around with the glowy bits. Still need to clean up the AOs a bit more but it is getting there.

Duncan this is looking amazing, absolutely loving the way this is going.
keep up the work.

Sick! You should give him a detailed face but leave the clothes mostly as simple as possible, like old TRON!

duncan

Micah:
Thanks :)

fearian:
Thanks. That is pretty much the way I am going to go. I wanted to create a newer outfit but keep the visual style from the original movie.

See... Now that you're doing stuff, this automatically means I won't finish! Way to ruin Christmas for everyone!

Looking slick, dude. Really dig the pattern designs, especially with the asymmetry on the chest and back.

Thanks Mr Emil.

yet another W.I.P

hahah very nice. Movember?

Liking the original TRON colours on the suit. Feel that fearian has a point here, maybe this will work better with a really detailed face?

Mustache FTW! haha, Nice work so far I'm really liking how this is turning out.

This looks great! The stylized proportions really work well and give the model tons of personality.

duncan
11-18-2010, 02:32 PM
hahahaha good call hawken.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I have reached a fork in the road. Moustach or no moustach? It worked before when the face was more simplistic but now that there is a bit more going on I am not sure it works.

Anyway not too much change but here is another W.I.P.

I dont't know. The moustache deffinately adds to th cartoony feel, and gives him the evil genius mojo. But I don't know if I see it as 'tronny' .

As is (black) it almost seems to much contrast from the rest of the model. (it draws the eye straight to it imo).

The line work is great though.

Neon blue moustache!
No stick with the black one. I think it looks great although he looks like he should have a pipe too.

HAHAHHA Conor, I wish I could afford one :(

Love the shapes and proportions; really strong stuff. The only area that feels a bit awkward is the silhouette of the inner thighs and crotch. The rest of the silhouette is really strong! Oh, and I love the mustache.

p.s. I'd love to rig and animate this dude like I'm currently doing with Spaceman George! Especially if he came with his own light cycle accessory :P

drelectro

Thanks everyone :)

@ jipe: Your wish is my command :D one Lightcycle coming up. Once I am done I will probably put him up as an SDK. How is George going? I am keen to see him in action, coz I am too lazy to do it myself.

@ drelectro: thanks.

Added Lightcycle.

Bike is nice, but the wheels are bit meh. Maybe use that floorplane texture in it as the spokes? Or something like these rotor blades:

(I love the wheels empty as they are)

HAHA Thanks guys.

@ Snader: I was thinking about adding in a variation of Conor's sweet propeller FX but I think I prefer it without. But thanks for the suggestion.

Added a little flag.

haha, that's a sweet ride! I think the hollow wheels work - it's more like the other lightbikes with hollow wheels. My rotor effect is meant to convey fast, blurred blades which wouldn't really suit a slow-moving bike like this anyway :-)

Haha nice! I really love how original you are with your entry

Acumen
11-29-2010, 10:31 AM
haha, come on, that's just too brilliant :D

As cool as the bike looks, one tiny tiny part of me thinks somehow you could have made the thing a bit more appropriate to further define the character's funny concept idea. It somehow looks too regular. It could have almost clownish potential. But then again every other bike I found via google pic search doesn't help my tiny tiny brain, so just ignore the blablabla.

Great and supersolid work !

Maybe try hexagons instead of squares for the pattern being revealed by the blades? Squares are good and all but hexagons are more symbolic of the style, although admittedly a bit of a cliche its an effective one.

duncan
11-30-2010, 02:11 PM
Thanks everyone :)

@ Acumen: I agree. To be honest I think my entry is just plain dull and generic, but it is what I wanted to do so I guess I can either start again :(...... or just roll with it and see what happens :D. But I will try to add a bit more character.

@ jocose: Thanks for the suggestion :). I want to continue with all of the textures so I might see how it goes. :)

Anyway. This was just supposed to be a pose W.I.P but I ended up taking it a little further. By no means locked in but I think I would like to go down this path.

http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/260/wip10.jpg

Thanks again for the feedback and kind words everyone.

Snader
11-30-2010, 02:14 PM
Jocose: those squares in the rotor blades are 2x2 pixels, with a 1 pixel space in between. Hexagons aren't really possible due to technical limitations.

jipe
11-30-2010, 03:15 PM
You might be able to exaggerate the proportions on the cycle to accommodate his extra-long legs. Or, you could make the cycle into one of those old-school bikes with the huge front wheel.

duncan
11-30-2010, 09:06 PM
@ Jocose: the bike is only using 512x256 so I have heaps of room left over but I don't think I will go for it anyway ( I am loosing my patience with it.) :)

@ jipe: HAHAHAHA yeah a Penny farthing

http://jimsbikeblog.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/penny-farthing-rider1.jpg

I thought about that one but I don't know....... I think I am too over it to go down that path :(. But thanks heaps.

Anyway Like I said I am pretty much over my entry so I am going to leave it. If I feel like it I might get in and make a few changes later on. Still have to work out my other shots but we still have time. Thanks for all of the awesome ideas guys. I am looking forward to seeing all of these entries finished.
