Asus Eee Pad, the ipad for non ipod people?

The Eee Pad is a Windows 7-based device that uses an Intel CULV Core 2 Duo and a touch-sensitive capacitive screen. It can be used as a multimedia player, e-reader, Web-browser, or, with the help of a keyboard docking station, full-featured PC. Asus will be releasing two versions of the Eee Pad. The EP101TC will come with a 10-inch screen and the EP121 will ship with a 12-inch screen. Personally, I say give me a call when they have Cintiq pressure sensitivity. But this is a step in the right direction.

It's all about the portability, and don't tell me that a laptop is more portable than this. It's all about getting laptops to be more like actual notebooks.

The whole point of these things is that they are meant to be smaller and less cumbersome than a laptop. But having said that, that is primarily the reason why these things don't have support for a wide variety off application and are limited to the mere basics.

But I'm really excited about products like this, because as more appear, there will be competition to push more power, more battery life and even hopefully some form of pressure sensitivity. So artists like us can pick up one of these and casually sketch on the couch/coffee shop/life drawing class/school/etc without it being a laptop or plugged into a desktop PC.

a guy at work has either one of these or something very similar, he has had it since xmas or something and it has pressure sensitivity i believe, something like 256 levels of it.

ill double check tomorrow, but the demo he gave had me wanting one. he said he paid about 800 or so for it. Ill post up the exact name / model number tomorrow.

edit: seeing as this isnt released it must be something different. looked nearly identical though.

After seeing CeBit this year it looks like every man and his dog are making a tablet PC. Most of them are sticking with either an atom CPU running windows or running android.
Hopefully with all of this competition going on we get some good products out it.

A convertible netbook would be a bit more usable that a straight tablet.

these pad gadgets need to be left for over a year or so before considering buying one, theres too much damn hype.. gen 2 and 3 is where its at.

The only downside is the android operating system, but i'm sure someone would be clever enough to get windows running on it.

And with a base price of around $350 you cant go wrong!
