These are made by a Hans Liska, who served in the german army in wwii. I found them almost by accident, but thought they were interesting, both artistically and historically. Plus I think its neat to see some of it in colour as percieved by an artist, and not overlaid onto a B/W photo some 60 years later.

Anyway, here goes:

A side note, posted this in its own thread because I thought the art was somewhat inspirational aside from being a historical novelty, which is why i didnt just put it in the "awesomeness" thread. If this is silly reasoning, please delete this accordingly.

pretty cool, Ive still got my grandfathers sketchbook from when he was in eqypt in world war 2 with the british forces somewhere, although he was more focused on the egyptians and origins of man and stuff than the war.

Thank you for sharing--we know that the artist's perspective is different (and in some ways truer) than the photograph. Serious skill at work here, especially in the environment of a warzone. Beautiful work, thanks.

Yeah, probably. I think he did some of the posters for recruiting, too.

Also, after scrounging a bit around yesterday, i found out he did quite a lot of work for Mercedes Benz after the war.

Looks to me like one of these Krupp railway guns:

However, it looks as if there is quite a bit of stretching the truth in that watercolour, making it look like there is one of these for every mile of the line. When in reality only 35 of them were built from the 30'ies to the end of the war, with a couple that had their barrels split due to funky rifling.
