HI . I'm new on this forum . First i'll say that i'm not native english speaker ,born in Poland :P (another slavic dude on this world).
Now i'm working on my environment using UDK (earlier UT3) ,Maya ,Photoshop and zBrush.

Fantastic work. I absolutely love that style you have going out there.
Only one thing bothers me; some of the screenshots seem slightly confusing and hard to look at. It can be due to the amount of small details, but it's hard to tell since you have no AA whatsoever.
Try to take screenshots at higher resolution (I'm pretty sure there was a way to do that) and size them down to get semi-AA effect. That will make your work much more appealing.

Video looks much cleaner than your shots. Though I would love to see some high-res shots :)

I agree from what has been said, the screen shots look great, but are a little hard on the eyes right now.

What, with AA? How did you do that? I thought there was no AA in unrealengine. Neox is always looking for a way to do it.

Juse rescaled the screenshots to a smaller res :] . But for that i was needing to plug external monitor .

Glad you up-resed them; looks a lot better :)
It is somewhat chaotic, but I think that's actually a good thing in this case; your scene has that organic feel to it.
You might want to play a little bit with Bloom and contrast settings (never used UE too much, but I believe you should be able to adjust those); some areas (especially 6th screenshot) seem a little bit washed out.
Great work overall.

This is pretty crazy awesome. But yeah it's very busy. It has that same issue I feel ut3 maps have. A cluster fuck of awesome. I totally love and feel dizzy from this chaos :) Keep up the awesome work!

This is really impressive. Very busy, but there's plenty of interesting parts to look at. It looks like it would be fun to run around in and shoot some guns. Great feel and style to it.

Not really :] Its all i've got now xD . Earlier i was working in TTGames doing lego games . There's nothing good to show and the old portfolio just sucks :] . Thats why i'm doing this scene and planning another one .

This is amazing :O such inspiring stuff! the initial parts of it remind me of that junktown at the beginning of fallout 3. The rest has got such a nice atmospheric look to it!

May i ask how long youve worked on this? as I am getting unbelievably inspired by this work that it makes me want to put something together in UDK. you have now gained me as a stalker :P
Hmm.. neat. It feels like it was made in Unreal tech. And if that tells you anything then great, because I don't know if I can articulate it properly. It feels a little bloomy, there's coloured lights everywhere, and its overall noisy. The colour palette of the structures aren't very inspired but the architecture as a whole, is.
Cool stuff, I just wish it didn't feel as though I've seen it before :\

The volume of the background music is however, a bit too loud. There is too much blurr around the lights, but than again I am still kinda new to CG and I wouldnt know better then Adam here.
Over all Nice work, Thanks for sharing.
Also please do post the updates when your work is finished..

I like your scene, it's a bit surreal.
The scene seems a little too brown everywhere, makes it a kind of hard to tell what's what at first glance. You've got that aspect of "next gen" covered.
I look forward to seeing more, keep it up :)

Hello.
The amount of detail in your environment is really good. I like the combination of hi-tech and nature overcoming it.
I think you successfully communicate the idea of a futuristic shanty town.
I suppose you are already working on this, but it would be nice to see something inside the buildings, right now they are pretty empty.
The foliage is quite believable. Maybe you could add more of it around the level.
I think you have way too much neon light going on.Why don't you try to eliminate the self-illumination/ glow in the ventilation shafts/fans?
Also try to space out your red and green neon lights a bit more, and maybe mute some of them down.
The concept behind this project is appealing, if those little bunny droids are the main inhabitants of this environment try to place some props that are suited for beings of their size.

Wow, great work! The colors and details read very well and remind me of graphics that could easily fit into the Gears of War/Unreal Tournament universe.

Yeah saw that anime . Was really great and like many others it was inspiring :] .
I've toned down the lights on towers and turned down backlighting on big fans and changed a little bit postprocess effects (less bloom ,dof etc).
Tomorrow i'll put some screens .

Personally, i just don't like glowing colored neons - it kinda breaks the complexity of the architecutre and distracts from the rest of environment.
Other than that - love it.
Maybe later u could post actual static meshes that u used as building blocks? Would help understand hou u built the level ;)

Dont know why but your texturing style reminds me of Rage. Really great work dude, cool to see something diffrent( pretty tired of scfi hallways). Only crit is like everyone is saying is that its a bit to much on the eye, way to much stuff that is crowded that the eye has trouble understanding. Keep it up dude, when this is finished im sure its gonna raise a few eyebrows!

Your video seems to have it's colors more saturated than in the screenshots. Much better IMO. Some screenshots seem hard to look at, probably because of the awesome amount of detail. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing. It looks great!

Looks excellent. The quality of the texturing and modeling is great and they hold together well.
To make this scene really great I'd put in some small scenes of human habitation. To tell a story of what the inhabitants did before you got there.
for example:
You could put in a small scene with some boxes or a shack, a mattress, with a fire in front, and something cooking on the fire.
I think this would make it better in a way that takes it to the next level. Because then, you're not just making architecture, you're creating a scene. I know a lot of games just don't do this sort of thing so obviously some people must disagree with it.

Everything started from nazi bunny model . When i was watching it another day with some lustmord dark ambient (this music genre is the best for daydreaming :]) in the background ,concept for first building was born :] . It was a factory (baby factory :P). I've got somewhere the whole indoor model without textures . The nazi bunnys were just a simple working drones i(and they still are :P).
After that more smaller ideas for for outdoor stuff came up. Modeled and imported them to UT3 , to see if there's any sense to create something bigger . I liked the results . Factory size was reduced to minimum and i've started to concentrate all my work on outdoors .
There was no preprocess . Only a mix of different ideas merging in time into one.

Just out curiosity, how long did this take you?! I see stuff like this, and it makes my head spin, lol. I look at this project and wonder how one person can fit so many things into a scene and not devote their life to it. I honestly think this would take me years to do. Amazing stuff, no doubt.

I'm jealous, this is stupid good, an all around great package made by one dude, very impressive. I think the swastikas and baby heads bring the scene down though. It's so unique in its own right, it doesn't feel like it needs to rely on cultural icons, i kinda feel like the environment deserves its own symbols and such. Just my opinion, keep rocking.

5K the main model ,Balconies about 1300triangles per balcony :] . Its not a big problems for todays PC's (Even on my laptop with just gf 8800m gtx with a performance of a desktop 9600gt/8800gt card) ;] but just in case LOD meshes are also created :} .

No bsp . Biggest assets of buildings in background and smaller one except the towers are using general use materials . Towers (except the roof element) and smaller assets are using individuall uvwrapped materials .

How long has all of this taken you, hydzior? And what is your workflow like? I can't possibly believe you're hand-authoring hi poly source for all of these objects and baking, that's beyond human. Are you generating normals for some / all of this from grayscale heightmaps?

On my core 2 duo 2,5 Ghz about 40 minutes on low ;] (almost 2h on high). This one has been rendered on low .Still a lot faster and with better results than the old renderer used in UT3 or Gears for PC :] .

For me baking premium quality lightmaps ist not to stable . Mostly the UnrealED's crashing after build without a chance to save results :] .

There's just something about a chipmunk-ized version of the Soviet Anthem that really makes the whole scene... creepy.

Amazing work.
Few questions.
How long did it take you from start to finish?
How much stuff was high poly and baked down and how much was just low with textures?
Got any individual assets you can share with us?
Even shots from unreals model editor would be great to show us some of your modular pieces you used over and over.

Almost all textures even this for generic use were baked from hipolygon models . Theres more low polygon models with generic textures than custom ones with custom textures .
I'm doing this level a year now :] . 5-6 months of intensive work.

Shame that you'll not see small details like dust etc , becouse youtube encode quality isnt perfect and 720p video on my harddrive looks lot more crisp than the youtube's one .

awesome work, I'm not a fan of the video effects though. I really wanna play in that map, or see a game in that style.

They're some bugs with the lighting on random objects . Lightmap is not baking on them and sometimes on their LOD mesh or main mesh with LOD baked. Its not affecting all meshes from the same class but only some random ones on the level . Tryed to replace the objects with new ones from content browser ,duplicate them ,change positions but with no results ,still this bug exists after bake even on high quality .
OK i'm going to sleep becouse its almost 6 AM here :] .

Awesome work Hydzi! The camera effect fits pretty nicely, too bad youtube's encoding is bad though, would love to see the particle effects properly.
Just wondering a bit about the sound, will you make further adjustments to the volume and such of the different ambient sounds and possibly add more? Right now the sounds don't mix too well imo, especially the robotic mumbling, it's a bit too loud.
Level is kickass though, just playing it as a little camera would be awesome :D

That's a funky lil drone, nice job animating it! The spotlight attached to each eye is a nice effect too :)
If you find a way to enable proper dynamic shadows cast by each of those lights, do share how :P

The level design is decent, there's too much stuff going on.
The rest is FUCKING AWESOME! It is like a mix of Gears of War and Bioshock, I love the style :D
Everything is beautifully modeled and the textures are super, the only thing that beats it is the lighting. The light rays and the bloom is just amazing. The work of a pro definitely.
I can seriously say that this is the best UDK map I've ever seen. Great job man :)

Yes there're some bioshock influences in here like many other games ,movies ;] . This drone was inspiration from games like bioshock and half life 2 :] . I really like flying around things in games :] .

6.985.917 triangles so far xD . Ofcourse under UDK almost everything is instanced :] and with LOD's.
Just exported whole map to obj and importet it to maya to see the numbers :] . If there's another method or something please share :] .

Hmm! That's a big difference from the count you got from your OBJ. I just noticed that the UDN page I just linked is a little out of date, so I wonder are you going by the number under Triangles or Inst. Triangles? The Inst. Triangles column is the one that will give you the actual total. Triangles will just tell you how much unique geometry is in your scene and per asset.
Congratulations on getting the front page feature by the way. :)

1. Hard to tell right now but i think that aroud 40 .
2. My largest one is 2048x2048 ,and its on ss_robo , on tower element showed couple of posts earlier ,on the bomb ,everything else are just from 256x256 to 1024x1024 .
3. A year of working from time to time (week of work 4-6h a day ,next week doing nothing ...) .
god3ila yes i think about uploading my packages to UDK community :] . Dont know when its happen tho :] .

I dont have dx11 hardware :P. This scene is and will use only dx9 features builded in UDK and some using custom shader node (like anamorphic flares :P or blinn lighting model). My sceond scene (thats already designed and the first model is actualy being made :P) will use some dx11 tech .

Yuup thats the Final video . Nothing more will come from Enviro_1 . Its done (almost what i wanted) . No interiors tho because of lack of time and i want to do something new .
Fixed some shaders , lighting , shadowing and some postprocessing + new flythrough . Everything is rendered using DX9 class gpu .
Its done i can move on to Enviro_2 scene with some DX11 features :] .

dont touch this on 8800gtx hardware . This scene is not so optimised ;] . MIn reqs are gtx260 for 720p and around 20-30 fps .

Ouch! Why the performance hit, too many unique meshes? Actually, how well does UDK cope with such modularity? Not only your environment, but I see modular UDK environments everywhere that have tons of different pieces. I recon this must save a lot of memory but at a certain point it should start to increase fill rates like crazy, right?

Postprocessing of my scene is eating 50% of performance :P . Then the translucend lightbeams assets ,particles and shaders with some blinn specular and other stuff :] .

More than a year with of work with bigger (the biggest one lasted a year becouse of a job) and smaller breaks .

Yeah ... Moved to DX11 with this old scene just to learn some new stuff. It was a good learning experience and the scene received a little bit of fresh air. Now i need to finish key assets for second Enviro and wrapping up everything in UDK should be faster.
In upcoming weeks i'll add some fly videos from my level Museum for Gears of War Judgment SP Compaign, Haven MP DLC level and from another one after commercial release.
