yeah its very very good, loaded it into unity against their default grass tex, tiles as good or better, the only thing that throws my eye off i guess is the unequal use of black, the areas i've highlighted dont have much black where the other parts do. Maybe just my preference

ok as gameartisans is down, here is my proof i couldn't finish it in time....
well i have some hours left but i've been almost falling asleep at work twice today so... 2 hours more sleep wil definitely help, here are so far the concept sheet:

http://www.polyphobia.de/nonpublic/jobs/2010/comicon/concept_sheet.jpg

and the constructions shot:

http://www.polyphobia.de/nonpublic/jobs/2010/comicon/construction_sheet.jpg

have her rigged and roughly skinned, enough for some posing with later finetuning, have the shaders set up and the lighting prepared for beauty and presentation, also have one of the 2 poses i'm going to make blocked out, but needs more dynamic and oh well i need to pose the hair, dreads, keyband and the cordthingies for her hood

wil have to finish tomorrow as i'm not in town on friday and the weekend, finally some time for partey, peppi and katz here i come!

Maybe it's the lighting, but that model is lacking in the texture department. It feels like it should be popping alot more. It's looking very flat and uninspiring at the moment.

The high poly looks awesome from what I can see, but it's hard to tell because your images are quite small.

Love it, you seem to be able to so easily create an awesome mood with so little that I'm always surprised.

@n88tr (http://www.polycount.com/forum/member.php?u=25527): As Kewop mentioned, working out 7 days a week really isn't helpful at all. Your body doesn't build muscle during exercise, but does so post-workout. Have a minimum of a day between work out days for growth and recovery. And yeah, make sure your caloric intake isn't too low:P

@Neox, I've really enjoyed looking at your progress on Storm. It's a way cool rendition, and that hair turned out fantastic. The amount of detail you put into everything is freakin' wild. Awesome job.

My paintings are several magnitudes of order below the quality of Jackwhat's, but you don't get better by not practicing. I've been re-working an old environment concept, and I could use some general crits to help me move forward with this.

If I swung in another direction though, I would seriously want to have oiled man sex with you. That version of Storm is just pure awesome man. I'm rooting for ya!!!!!!!!!

- Livewire -: that's nice dude! i would aim for a more complex hard surface design for your next project. that design is very boxy like (as a result of the time it was made of course), so it doesn't really show off what you could seriously do in a hardcore way... still a really strong piece, but not a ton of really huge complex shapes if you catch my drift.

Ruz: ahhhhh! i see! my bad... a bit dazed and exhausted from the week... the skull... not the stock default head... my bad! totally see what you are saying though. i sculpted the jawline in completely wrong (amongst other things) but opened the mouth initially for setup for later baking and lip sculpting, so the jaw should be angled upwards more towards the back.... my shit still sux though... the eyes really make it look goofy.... crap for crap for crap. :P

Ruz
10-15-2010, 09:26 PM
yeah was referring to the skull not the generic base meshy thing

anyway just keep at it Firebert its half way there now.
I would drop the ears down a bit though.
For the hair and tash, you should give the slash 2 brush a go. works ok

re the eyes I normally just use plain spheres as a guide. The one above has the eyes as part of the base mesh though

I think this is my first post here ... or maybe second. At any rate, I've read so many great threads here and gained so much mileage from reading the wiki that I figured I should show something I did recently.

"World of Level Design" is holding another one of it's challenges and this time around it was a haunted house (http://worldofleveldesign.com/categories/level_design_challenges/halloween-level-design-game-enviroment-challenge-2010.php). I created an entry for it that I would say is 98% complete (give or take).

This scene is the result of reading a lot of stuff here and, of course, nagging my co-workers whenever I couldn't figure something out or had bad work flow or what-have-you. I did all the meshes myself and assembled the textures as well - I'm a level designer/scripter at work so this is new territory for me.

Anyway, here's what I did (in UDK):

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/161473/HH_Preview5.png

And the wireframe for those who are interested:

Thanks! This site has been an awesome learning resource!

Badass Vulture there Livewire. I love seeing well done BattleMechs. Were you using the high polys from the "Mechwarrior: Living Legends" Crytek Mod? It's got that kind of feel to it. I love the way you handled the form, especially the hip actuator. Well done.

Yep! I used them for reference as well as some side and front blueprints I managed to find on the internet, and thanks!

My first low-poly hard-surface model that I plan to texture and put in a scene (not counting accesoires for characters).

Only did the main green pat at the moment (still very much wip) and no spec map yet.

Currently standing at 1464 triangles.

You need to look a lot more closely at some female reference for that character prolow :P Right now, there is nothing saying 'female' about what you have going. I second this. The profile is alittle too linear here, maybe round it out and give it a bit more protrusion. Left arm isn't as noticeable as the right, and it might just be the angle of the render, but yeah, could use a tiny bit more Umph in the profile. Looks great though. Nice job crazyfool.

woow gauss she is pretty man :) Fantastic work on that face and it reads as Brazilian strait away :) She reminds me of someone but i cant think of the name :). If I may ask what would you ( or anybody else here ) consider key features of a Brazilian female face? What I can see is a little stronger jaw, dark hair and eyes, what else is in there- sometimes I can't really say just by looking at it :) Other thing I noticed with most Brazilian girls is that thee are not exactly cute, but have some male lines in their faces that are blended very well and give them that extra touch that tells - dont mess with me :) o r may be this is just in my head :)

thanks everybody, thread keeps inspiring to do better work.

neox: thanks man i spent the lion's share on that and i think it paid off. also i haven't said it yet but storm came out fantastic, lots of beautiful, subtle work on that piece.

disanski: thanks, i believe she reads as properly Brazilian because i worked from a reference image that i had saved out from i'm not sure how long, which i had saved as "brazilian.jpg"--whether or not she is actually Brazilian i couldn't properly say. but you're right, there are certain key elements--complexion, certain facial construction that is NOT aligned to most western media conceptions of model-beauty (thank goodness for that). i would say the lips/vault of the mouth and jaw line are important. while trying to get the likeness on the head, i noticed she actually has a fairly tall chin.

BeatKitano: yeah I was getting that vibe too--also it'd just be a shame to cover up all the work I did on her face :)

anyway thanks for the commments guys and keep up the good work, too many good pieces to easily single out

edit: except moof i am also suuuuper digging the bionics treatment on that guy, looks great

Thanks for the kind works!

Blaizer thats a great model and texture.
I love the subtle softness and sss feel you got in the texture. Especially in the weapon arm.
Do you bake the lighting onto your textures or are they all hand painted?

Thanks man. I baked a "helper map" with the lighting, and the rest was paint work. The model uses a hi-res model as source for the lighting, is the same process as with a model for normal maps, but with a different bake and texture work.

Edit: i ending posting a thread with the workflow and some more images.

hey ironbear nice progress, Ive noticed a that youve posed him really stiffly in the concept sculpt, try to get a more natural pose and really nail the anatomy some more like just for an example the neck is pretty much vertical where most peoples necks point slightly forward over thier chest and curve up to the head. rock on :)

Thanks Ged, will do :)

Med, I really like that design, but I think the finer line work in the web is really hurting the readability. It's just coming across as a big blob and I think it could work much better with fewer, bolder lines. The same with the finer stuff on the A and a bit of the shading on the wheat.

Great work on the face Gauss! It's really nice to see your drawings looking much less static in their poses. I know I haven't been around much on PC for a couple of years, but you've definitely improved in that time :D

My only issue, if you are keeping with the Brazilian look, is that you need to give that girl a bigger, rounder bubble booty... hers is looking far too small and flat :( It's coming across as a sexy Brazilian woman's head stuck on a "Western media conceptions of model-beauty"'s body ;)

the shape of the teapot isn't very legible with the big bulge on his belly and under the spout. Also the rainbow is thin and splashy at one end and thick and goopy at the other?

E: and shading on the teeth is a little wtf, its like their set really far back into his mouth, but nothing else indicates that.

I like the concept though :P

-DK >^..^<

Yeah I hear that but the ref was way skinnier than even I present here. Probably is a model, with all the attendant boyish thinness, as the photo looks like it was taken in NYC. Anyway, I thickened her up some but as well as being Brazilian she's also meant to actually be a fighter, not a pinup. I think bubble-butting her would have been against what I was trying to go for. I would have built up her musculature more but frankly my anatomy is still lacking, I can't go too far from a ref without the picture taking a hit as a whole.
Anyway thanks for the comments, I need to get working on another piece :)

Yeah, the web will be diffused some when I get back to it. There will be a halftone effect added to the center of the web(the dense part) to break it up.

As far as the letter, you're not getting a real view of it, since you're seeing a screen cap at 25%. At print scale the items aren't so crammed up like that, so a bit misleading there. But you are right about the web.

Dustin, nice. I'm a massive Waits fan :D

I think you're pushing his mouth out a little too much, though. He looks kinda like Homer Simpson :P You can see in that smoking ref pic (centre left) that his mouth is still relatively flat across his face.

His jawline could use a little more curve in it. There's a sort of arch formed by the jowls as they fall below.

And his cheeks should be a little more hollow than they are on your sculpt at the moment.

Bring his forehead in a little - the cheekbones and forehead shouldn't be that wide compared to the rest of his face.

Prolow: her boobies look a bit flat from the side, they might be a little low too - generally there's about a head's length of distance from the chin to the nipples (ok, female nipples are a bit lower), but I also think her head is a bit small, that could be all there was to it. The body is getting really nice otherwise.
And even correct her posture, she is leaning a bit forward.

Definitely a lot better now!! Overall the body is looking great.
Only crits are the boobs are a little flat, like krisCrash said. They look good from the front though, but I'd also soften the line from them to the armpit, it's a bit too pronounced now.
I also think the deltoid and upper back could use a bit more softening, they're still a bit man-ish. The neck could probably be a bit thinner and softer, but its alright, up to you.
Last thing is the face. Dunno how much work you've done on it, but it could definitely be a lot more feminine. She almost reads as an older man right now. Partly I think that's from the haircut that looks like a receeding hairline with a slight come-over :P I also think the eye brow and jawline need to be reshaped and softened into a more feminine look. I think the forehead may also be a bit too pronounced.

Other than those points, looking really great!
