Does anyone have suggestions for painting specular maps for hair? The character I'm working on is a brunette.. Is there some way to go about texturing the hair to make it look like it has a good glossy sheen to it? Or is there a specific shader in unreal that works well for poly hair and what textures will I need to create for it?
Thanks!

In Unreal there's an anisotropic lighting model you can use instead of phong, this will let you pick a direction of anisotropy for the highlight to spread in. As far as a specular map I wouldn't worry about painting a separate map. I would probably base it off of the diffuse. When it comes to hair the diffuse component is actually pretty dark compared to the highlight color, it's a lot like metal.
