Don't know where to post problems with the forum so i'll just post a new thread, please delete if it's wrong.

Anyway, i have always had problems with avatars on the forum, can't get a 80x80pixels 19.5kb avatar to work. just says its above the limit, doesnt matter if its from an url or if i upload it onto the site. have to go down to 50x50pixels if i want it to work. Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks!

Use higher compression on the 80x80?

Open the image in windows bitmap and save as jpg from there. It uses some kind of compression which is really good.Lower size and loss of quality is not much...

Try it.

If you have Photoshop, use the Save for Web option under the File menu. There's a dropdown menu with an option that says Optimize to File Size. Open that up, plug in whatever file size you want and it'll do its best to select compression settings that will get you at or below the desired file size.

Thanks guys ill try that. So even if it says the size is under the maximum right now, that doesn't count? It's using some kinda hidden size?

It may be using "size on disk" as opposed to actual filesize...

also try shrinking it to 79X79 px, and do use the save for web settings. Not only do you get nice compression, but you get a clean file with new metadata, incase the dimensions are being read improperly from your old file or something like that.

Thanks people work with 80x80 pixels now, seems like it was some problem with it remembering the metadata from older saves.

I was actually wondering about this myself. I'm having some trouble getting my avatar to display. It's 64x64, and less than 1kb. It shows up just fine in my user cp, but nowhere else. I've tried gif, png, and jpg, and all of them upload properly, but don't show up in my posts.
