I want to concentrate on the sculpt and getting the texture to look right on this. I'm aiming for a worn look on this. The sort of thing you might find washed up on a beach. Then add some battle damage from busting up zombies.

Here is what I'll be doing;

This is my hi poly with a paintover.

And I have some ideas about how to model the tape I want to try.

Made some progress on the high poly.

Trying to decide if I should bother sculpting any wood grain or if it would be better to just do it in something like crazybump.

What about sculpting the wood grain in mudbox using a wood image as a stencil?

Ended up sculpting everything using stencils. This was the first time I really used them and it seems a hell of a lot easier then trying do it in photoshop and deal with seams.

For the duct tape I modelled it as a mesh. The rendered a displacement map from a cylinder and brought it into mudbox. The idea was that this way I could get more control this way. Make the surface less pronounced by adjusting the layer transparency.

This didn't work as well as I had hoped and ended up taking more time to fix things then it did helping them.

Oh well live and learn. That's what these workshops are for.
