View Full Version : SketchBook: ColdKodiak (CK)

This is basically the start of when I decided to get serious about line work, and really pushing my drafting and line abilities.
I started with a comic, which is in hiatus unfortunately until personal circumstances change.
But I've been keeping sketching every since, and intend to keep going and learn as much as I can.
This is just a selection of pages for the comic:

and random sketches, some better than others.
and the only real proper things I've done in color over that period of time until recently.
anyways, more to come.

Guess I might as well put my dwar mini stuff up as well.

Your linework is badass, hopefully one day I can pull off works of comparative quality.
For the sake of people like me, please continue this sketchbook. I really look forward to seeing more.
Wow, this is inspiring. Thank you!

your linework is great, but seriously, whats your art background? and how did you learn to paint like this?
03-09-2009, 06:02 PM
whats your art background?
i second the question kodiak. love you too :p
03-09-2009, 06:41 PM
dude, this stuff is fun as hell
03-09-2009, 07:08 PM
I have no formal background on painting or drawing. I learned some of my 3d/game stuff over @ the art institute of Cali- San Fran (Bachelors of Science, lol) ... but they didn't teach squat about painting. I'm pretty much self taught on that front, except for maybe a few gnomon dvds.
EQ> Fun is good. :D thnx

Oh my god those storyboards are amazing.
03-10-2009, 07:57 AM
Just amazing ! Post more !!

Holy crap, those are awesome!

Someone might be able to two and two together on this one.
Will be painting this.
Also going back through a bunch of old paintings, and tightening up salvageable ones. After looking through my portfolio, I pretty much threw every painting out, hah. Been awhile.
also with dom war around the corner, just been playing with thumbs since I haven't done any in forever.
Jimmies_the_squirrel> story board is actually a comic, but yeah, thankie kindly. ;)
Renaud Galand> will post more.
peppi> Thanks dude. I worship your stuff. Means a lot :)

dropping this off. Must work on some other stuff.
03-13-2009, 06:26 PM
lots of good stuff in here. I really like that piece you did for the dw mini-comp, awesome

my life has been rather chaotic for the last month or so, why I haven't been around much. I've been practicing more production oriented work. I'm thinking about taking a cue from hawkprey and using models for props, vehicles.
Need to step out of my bounds for a bit here.
Great stuff man! I really love your costume/fashion design, it is always so unique. The clenched fist on the rocker seems very strange, almost like his fist just grew out of his forearm and bypassed the need for a wrist. The same arm seems rather short and stubby as well. Look forward to seeing some more. Soon I hope.:)
Well it's been a long time...
I created a new account. I can't remember why exactly. Eh? Something was up with the other one.
promise to be more active here from now on. I'm a bit more settled in an art sense these days. Can stay regular. Keep up the flow. Absorb the overflow.
Woot! Glad to see some new stuff...moof...? Haha. I really like the jungle and undersea image, very cool. Keep the good stuff coming.
btw thnx for being around dude, you're always super cool. I will keep stuff coming ;D

LOL! Pancho Loco! how awesomeis that, I wish there was a game with this character.
Thanks for sharing ColdKodiac, I'm a big fan
04-23-2010, 12:33 PM
osom stuff, dude! deep water girlie and pancho loco are my favourite pieces so far!
04-23-2010, 07:41 PM
great stuff here. some of the perspectives seem a bit off but most of it is amazing. hope i can get this good soon.
04-24-2010, 06:29 AM
I dig the progression, great stuff.

SWEEET dump man
working on a couple things at once, finished this first. Been watching Spartacus bloood and sand, felt inspired by the gladiator helmets specifically. Always thought they were sweet.. ;D
04-27-2010, 02:08 AM
Your characters are all so fucking cool, that gladiator is just asking to be made even sicker... or maybe thats just me and my exceptionally twisted tastes.
Infact, that inspires me to attempt to come up with a fitting combatant... that I may just do!
jackwhat> go for it. Make a combatant so that we may bask in more glorious coolness of gladiators :D
this isn't new but i forgot to add it to the dump
