Sorry I was looking around and didn't find any answers to my question so I'm going to ask here.

I have done a few things in Maya 8.5 the free edition they gave out a long time ago, I finally got a legal normal edition of maya 7 and everything is different. I was just wondering though, whenever I extrude faces on a Cylinder some of them get wierd faces and shading becomes a mess.

I never had this problem in the 8.5 Demo, I could extrude things and the faces remained normal.

THanks for the help.

It kind of looks like you don't have 'Keep Faces Together' ticked. In 8.5, its in the Edit Mesh menu. But I think it is somewhere else in Maya 7. Polygon menu perhaps?

Modeling tools, Polygons > Tool Options > Keep Faces Together.

No prob. For some reason, we've got clients using Maya 7 as well, so it was something I had to figure out too. Damn if stuff isn't all over the UI in those older versions of Maya. I know how to do about half the stuff in half the versions of Maya (which half varies, dependant on version), and you all just got lucky with that little tidbit. ;)

maya 7 sucks so much. it seems like theres different preferences instead of just one. like youll edit preferences for a tool in one preference window and in another its totally conflicting and sometimes it uses one and sometimes the other.
