For the McDonalds, were's the "back door" area that the truck pulls up to unload the food, and the garbage dump that's usually next to the place?

Weop, more RobG work!

By any chance was this inspired by neox's spy character? Just has that kinda vibe with the "skinny" guy and the big guy.

Either way, awesome-sauce!

smedjeback, nice set piece. Have you considered creating a damaged version and perhaps putting it in the game?

RobG, very nice "doodles", great looking.

Here's a sculpt I did today. I haven't seen Lilo & Stitch and it didn't inspire the model, but it did end up with a resemblance.

my first attempt at sculpting a character

face still needs a lot of work. mostly doing this to get use to sculpting in mudbox.

http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/5731/splatpixel1.jpg

this looks almost exactly like a lady I met a few days ago, except she didn't have that much boobage (and of course, she had hair, clothes). Firmer boobs would be nice, but nice work all the same! It's hard to tell in the early stages but I think you're off to a great start.

Hello, back with my McDonalds. The polycount and texture size is made to work in an RTS game like "world in conflict". Haven´t been able to work for a while now but I think its finished. So, what do you think?

TelekineticFrog, that's downright awesome. Only crit I have is the bricks making up the chimney. They look strangly organic and it's a really weird way to build a structure like that.

Edit: Thought I'd might as well throw in some stuff of my own. I made this character over a year ago for a short one month production but the files got lost and I only managed to recover them just recently. It's just a full bright texture, no fancy shaders. His anatomy is pretty funky though, definately somthing I'd work with if I were to remake him.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v85/Merskum/bomathorne005.jpg

I also got a turnaround up on Vimeo with some awesome compression errors. You can download it, if you want to get rid of them.

nice dude, Mathorne! you got some serious style my friend.
this guy's arms and hands need some thing to make it jive with the rest of the character better. i was thinking maybe skinnier fingers or push the dynamics on his arm, longer fingernails, rock'n rings, or something. nothing too much, but something to tie them to his body better. rad character.

i dig it jason :) nice

Nice door josh! it was cool before, but now, looks even cooler.

well, that piece was all made inside modo.
the render is inside modo. the dof comes from modo and stuff.

i did some post in photoshop, like, levels, lens distortion and vigneting. sharpening, color correction.:)
one thing that i added, that adds realism to it, is the overlay noise :) is nice!

basically, what you wanna do is..

create a new layer on top of the stack.
fill it with black.
go to noise, and add noise. like, 100%, uniform, and uncheck monochromatic.
then, go to blur\blur more.
then set the layer mode to overlay and the opacity to something like 10%.

adds a nice sutble noise to the pic.
GREAT SUCCESS!

Marisa, HntrLuc, Johny, ThatDon, BlackulaDZ, JasonLavoie, Art-Machine, Katana, Mathorne, ParoXum, Snowfly and anyone I may have missed...thank you for the kind words.

That piece was a lot of fun to do. All textures were painted at 256x256 or smaller for it and there is a full interior as well that is 2 floors. I just need to figure out a good way to present the interior space.

Josh that door came out awesome! I liked it a ton back when you first got it modeled, but now that its game ready I think I like it even more.

Jason lookin' sharp. Keep the cat. :)

Snowfly the coloring is reminding me of some of Falcoon's sketches. Coming along nicely. Only one thing that's really not worth mentioning maybe...the puzzle pieces removed on the guys' legs, the two that are on the upper and inner thigh...with you being able to see thru to the background it makes it read paper thin, only because the puzzle pieces on the opposing side of the leg would either have to be perfectly matched holes, bigger chunks missing to see thru. Maybe making them dark as if you're looking into him or filling the void with some energy type of his own. Just a thought.

Great environment work Jason and Josh. Nice anatomy sketches Nick; some great gestures and poses going on.

itsover3: Not bad for your first real attempt at a head sculpt. The main problem I see is that the planes and shape of the head are still very off, and that's bringing down a lot of the brighter points in your sculpt. I'd recommend dropping down to a much lower level of detail and spending more time trying to understand the shape of the head and the way the features (eyes, lips, nose etc.) wrap around the form. Also: don't neglect the ears! Trying to sculpt an accurate human head while completely forgoing a major feature of it will drive your brain crazy and make the process a lot harder than it needs to be.

Been working on a bodybuilder-type character the past few days. He's somewhat based off Arnold Schwarzenegger, but I'm not really intending it to be a true likeness. Still a lot of work to be done at this point.

they're both awesome snowfly! I preferred the 2nd last version of both though: liked the pink jumpsuit in the prison pic, and i liked the guy's grin in the fight- it looked more interesting to me since it seems to have more narrative: it looks like he's clearly about to recieve a fire punch, but it seems like either he knows something the other guy doesnt: or, hes just enjoying the fight so much he doesn't care.. i like the wild grin much more than the angry grimace. How about taking a break before calling them done? just a suggestion, fantastic work either way!

I just stuck this in crazybump quickly to see how the normals are working. I'm using the same custom shader as Racer did in his video, but it seems like it is completely blowing out my normals and I can't figure out why :(

Still need to do a boat load to the texture, but thanks to Racer's video, I'm having an awesome time working on it, dude is crazy at what he does!

Anyways, back to work :)

Cheers guys :)

Ruz - that car model is coming along really well - the front looks a little too flat maybe? Something that I would have nightmares about trying to model!

killingpeople - Yep - that's meant ot be one of the little critters that he has killed in his life as an exterminator. He's come back as an unwilling ally to the Hairy Swatter's great pest control extravaganza... or something

RobStites
07-09-2009, 02:12 AM
Ruz - Car is looking sweet, but the nose is definitely still too flat.

arlrex - Usually alpha issues like that can be fixed by making the alpha'd part of the model separate and giving it it's own material. I know that's what I usually have to do to get things to show up right in Maya's viewport.

More work on the Warhammer boiling oil, lowpoly + normals + occlusion. Going to add the spikes tomorrow and start texturing. Spent all day today fighting some file corruption issues in Maya.

Decided to give the character a small break while I make a little stage. Around 3 hours so far (research, reference hunting, sketching, chocolate milk and bread break, and modeling). Small pic for now ^^;

oh well a bit more technical but I played with maxscript and wrote a script that...

http://www.renderhjs.net/bbs/polycount/submissions/maxscript_list_instances_01.gif

...creates a unique list of instances of the selection and sorts them by volume size. Since the new resulting list of objects are instances of existing instances you can tweak prefabs outside from your scene compositions.
This is great if you want to tweak individual instances of your scene or level or want to determine how many instances and which instances you are using.

Ani, your stuff is always stylish :)

TheMadArtist, that is a brilliant reproduction of the photo. Would love to see a wireframe.

I'm working on a new environment, will post a thread when I have more to show but here's a nearly finished wall section.

That´s fresh one: A character concept for a illustration based in the "Dragon Rider" theme.

Oh...and some thumbnails dump. The marked ones are what the most had the "feeling" I was searching for this character.

*A wild lamp appears

updated - next page

Some lamps I'm finishing up for Doom 3: Phobos (was asked to help them out with modeling, defiantly good practice... still need to get that scene done).

Messing around with the shader as well, fresnel... mmmm!

Watch out for some texture stretching, the middle lamp has it's screws slightly stretched at the bottom.

renderhjs: great idea for a script! might be cool as well to just do it on the whole scene if nothing is selected, and maybe put all the "found" instances into a new layer called "instance_master" or something for easy organisation?

neox: great texturing, i love the colours and style of that
kio: nice barrels, but maybe need a bit more hue/colour variation here and there? or still WIP?
ani: awesome desk :)

Tried to do a quick speed assessment based from a WH40K minature model. I had to add lots of extra geometry and make some floating to get a mediocre bake out of it.

I was trying to not sound like a douche in my post. I was making the lamp for the mod afterall so I'm not really concerned that it ended up serving its purpose =b. The selfish starving artist in me just wanted to see my name somewhere in the vicinity of it lol. Anyway, all is right with the world. no biggie.

A bump offset on the inner parts of the lamp would be nice i think. Something to give it more depth.

carlo_c- try adding a touch of rotational offset to all your bricks, it can really help

MoP
07-12-2009, 04:20 PM
also maybe try using that one with the really obvious repeating detail not quite so much...

i mean the wall itself looks good, but that one brick with the 2 dents in it can't hide even rotated 180 degrees... :)
