Ok, this is a still from an environment I developed for a theoretical western. My first work posted on polycount so go easy on me ;). This was a school project I did in a two week period. Rendered in 3ds Max with mental ray.
I'm hoping I can continue improving before I graduating next March so any comments or critiques would be appreciated.

Pretty nice, man! I like the detail under the planks, and the spill and hoof prints. That is a nice touch. Lighting looks really nice as well. That being said, some things are throwing me off here. First of those lights are quite strong, and the color and intensity feel like light bulbs rather than the oil lamps I think you were going for. Try a warmer color. Also, one building is wood, one is brick, and one is concrete? If this was a western, I am pretty sure the buildings would all be made of wood.
So all in all this was executed pretty well. Could we some some wireframes, and textures?

nice start! I like the lighting. I think you just need to keep going with some more details and a little texture revision.
Welcome to PC.

Thanks for the comments. Cody caught me on the lightbulbs thing. I originally had it with toned down lighting, but I just didn't like the way it looked and it was one of those things where I couldn't spend any more time on it. One of the very frustrating parts of being in school.
As far as the buildings go, I am fairly certain concrete was available towards the end of the Western age, but I could be wrong. This project was an experiment to see if I could perfectly replicate something given to me via a photograph and make it interesting. Please ignore the giant antenna on building #3 :P

Now I will post the wireframe, however, keep in mind this was for an animation so the scene itself I feel I could have built a lot more efficiently and gotten nearly the same effect, but feel free to critique it because I like to hear other ideas about how they would have done it.
