Im currently playing around in Max 2008 but theres one thing which is REALLY bugging me. In edit poly mode max insists on displaying all the triangles as if it where an editable mesh. I have tried everything to solve this. Turning off Cached DX3DMeshes but this takes a massive performance hit and is unworkable. Ive also tried reverting from DX10 to DX9 but this causes other issues with meshes dissapearing when you maximise a viewport window.

The only thing which does work is using open gl but this isnt the most satisfactory solution because of the viewport qaulity.

Has anyone come across the same situation and if so have you managed to fix it?

can you show us an image? If you are saying it looks as if it triangulates your mesh, your mesh may already be triangulated. I haven't seen this in max 2k8 or 2k9. O_o

There's a check box for "Display all triangle faces" or something like that. Turn it off.

Right click on the object, go to object properties, and check "Edges Only". If the default setting is different, there is a setting somewhere for that... can't remember where (check the help file).
