Nice! I like the Halo ones a lot. It really has this classic old school feel to it.

I've only ever seen you practising yourself copying things. While that's a fine way to learn anatomy, I just wonder: have you ever made anything of your own?
Why not show that stuff in here as well?
Yeah man, i should do alot more random stuff,
im not too great at creating compleet scenes of my own, and for now i just want to stick to learning things the right way, theres too much information in these pieces. So untill i feel like i can do it on my own, ill be learning from refs :P

Its just a practice, not the real thing,

Ok so from now on im going to use this thread more,
Alot of photography and traditional art coming up :)
practicing in the studio :D

I dont want to go into details too much now, think its better to do some more quick ones then to get lost in this for a week.

I don't think it is the right way, though. That way, you're not really developing a style, and if I look at the shading in the image that accompanied that post, it looks like the excess of information is making it so that you're not learning to start big and refine. Everything is rather flat and lifeless, which is a very real danger when you're copying, and you're at risk of incorporating that into your style.
Just my opinion ofcourse, and knowing Polycount, someone may immediately debunk it, which is fair enough. Just don't entirely ignore it without good cause, as I think you're spending a lot of time and energy on what I would think are not much use as exercise.
I apologise if this sounds too harsh to you, and I realise you may find it hard to take from me, as I'm far from perfect in my 2d skills, but it really is meant as kindly as possible. I'd consider myself to be a lot meaner if I didn't post this.
Haha no worries Pea, i kinda agree.
Think it would be better to change my approach a bit,
the image was a practice to create something on my own and to ignore refs while creating it, but it didn't turn out that great. (I believe i remember Pior having some cool shading tuts, gotta look those up.)
Im trying out every type of learning method, style, medium, and in the end it should work out.
Untill now, everything im capable of is self taught (the whole skillrange), but i think its time to attent to some real drawing classes.
No excuses, its time to hit it and start learning. (ill make sure to find some good figure art classes around here within a couple weeks)
Thanks for the imput Pea, i like hard crits, so keep those coming.

that's great!
Thanks bounch!
I've never really done much with landscapes, but it was fogy today, and it created some nice scenes, so i rushed home to grab my cam and made some shots.
Here is another one, quite strange but fun.

and did you take multiple and string them together for that last landscape one?
i really do love these
I made some simple corrections, but no real tricks or filters are involved, so yes these are straightup photos :)

Man it was freezing this morning, and when the body of the camera cools down, your hands get cold so fast! not cool.
Chased the squirrel around for quite some time. These are wild, so coming near them is not as easy as it may look.
Went for an old photo color, probably not the best choice.. ah well.

these are incredible rens.
i'm also under the impression that these are trained animals that you pay a lucrative amount to pose for you on some studio trees with perfect lighting. please feel free to correct me if i am wrong.
I really like your photography, brings me back to better times in my life. Nice drawings too.
Thanks for the great replies guys, really made my day :)
Jouste, ill be looking for squirrel-snacks and use those to lure them in, see if i can get some cleaner shots instead of running after them and grabbing my chance when they freeze from my ultimate surprise.
Sage, great to hear man,
i love to wonder around with my camera and really suck up the moments, and appreciate the things around me. Capturing those moments and sharing them makes me a happy man :)
I bought myself a new toy, a nikon 50mm 1,8F lens.
Makes me feel like a little kid that just opened a christmas present. (wait it actualy is my christmas present for this year, better late then never)
(blurry snapshot btw)

agreed, man
your shots get more and more badass :D
Normaly i wait with replying untill i got something new, but i have to now :D
Ashley, thanks! i think fairy tale road is my favorite atm :)
whip, on the first page, i have a photo of a bird, but there is a branch infront of it, guess thats how it got its name :P
StJoris Thanks man! realy means alot, and is nice to hear.
And you bunny ol' pall! :D
I sometimes find it weird that im flooding a 3d forum with all kinds of things. specialy photography atm.
I started off with alot of 3d work, but the last two years because of rsi reasons i began picking up alot more art forms, and today im more of a "random" artist,
ah well, its art, and thats why we are here for :D
http://rensedeboer.com/pg/rensedeboer02.jpg
on the high res, i could see myself, big ass eye reflection :D
i followed this bird for a minute or 3 within a meter, and when i stoped chasing him, he began to come closer to me, strange bird, great moment.
http://www.rensedeboer.com/pg/birdistheword.jpg
Fantastic shots here rens. That's a funny bird.
I really like those firework shots, with the smoke being lit, they almost look nebulous.
Thanks alot Slum :D - I think the birds are getting hungry and cold, might be the reason.
I found out what caused my quality problem with the photos. Everytime i edited a photo, and saved it, it came out entirely different.
When you import your photo, it uses color set X and Xkb blabla, when you save, it uses colorset X and Xkb blablabla, those werent lined up, so my scene used different colors, therefor my saved file always looked like crap.
ill make a screenshot of the specific settings next time to clear it up.
i mostly go out for 1,5 hours and make some photos, so once again, a damn photo.
luckaly the dom war is coming up, and im working on some concepts for a new painting.
building it from scratch in photoshop, though times, but in the end we learn quite alot :)
