A co-worker of mine used to use his desktop like that. When he had some days off, the admin screenshotted the desktop, cleaned it up and used the screenshot as the new background.
It took my co-worker a few hours of fury because he couldn't click his files to find out what happened. Now his desktop is free of unused stuff. Lesson learned. :)
