To start off I'll show you guys a model that I'm working on for my Character Modelling class this quarter. It is my first character model, and I would love any critique!
The original character is Tofuman, and he belongs to my good friend Afu, whom you can find here http://aznmextofu.deviantart.com .

looks great! haha, what's the story on this guy?
great looking model. the only thing i can see is that on the drawing, the feet/shoes have more detail on them... like small metal / rubber sections on the toes, sides, and heels. but, i'm sure that's being worked on as you go along. also, maybe the eyes are too far apart?
great work on the model!

yeah! really good point about the eyes and feet! I'll see if I can fix that today C:

u got some skills there Cristina :) obviously keep up the 3d work... but id love to see more of your 2d stuff on here as well

Cristina, of course you should use reference. In my opinion, it is easier to get what your going for. But i dont think you have to copy the reference straight up, you have a creative mind, and it shows in your creature sketches.(which are very cool) Try appliing realistic reference to your creative concepts. NICE WORK!
PS. AWSOME TO SEE YOU POSTING!

It's hard to say because I think that everyone has different skills and opinions.
As far as I go, I have loved my stay here for the past 2 years, and have seen my skills grow tremendously thanks to my classes. And recently the school has aquired some amazing teachers.
However, I think that it is safe to say that all schools and classes have their strong and weak points; When it comes down to it, it is up to the individual to do the work (in class and outside) to shape yourself into skilled artist.
I do believe that anyone going to this school could make it a worthwhile experience if they work hard enough.
I'm paying about !100,000 for my 3 years here, including housing costs.
I think that an Bachelors in animation is about $60,000.

yah it depends, its mostly based on how much work your willing to put in. there are some teachers i respect more than others. and they vary from exp in video games to movies, so you gonna get the "well rounded" experience. but dallas does have a lot of great groups and companies around.

Another AI student, and one with the same last name ironically (were not related right ?:P). Like the goat girl and rooster boy, lot of characer in them. Would keep away from the anime fan works though (Evangelion) as you'll find the art community largely look down on that stuff these days. Also sense you go to the Dallas school, for 3d try to absorb all you can from Spark (Brett Briley), he knows his stuff.
Anyhow, keep it up

Killing people: Why aren't there more females in the gaming world? So sad.
PolyHertz: OH NO! Haha, Gardner is an awesome last name! woohoo represent!
I had Brett for Character Modelling last quarter! He's an AMAZING teacher. I can honestly say that's the most informative class I've taken so far. I have him again this quarter for Hard Surface lighting or something>???? but that's not until tomorrow. C:
If you're in Dallas you should come hang out with us at sketchgroup.
Slum: Do you mean "Black death"?? I suppose he does look like a chicken XD

It was great meeting you at the workshop!
These are great! I love your style. I think your progressing really well. I'm anxious and excited to see you make the next step into texturing for 3d. You have a lot of fun designs that are just begging to be game characters. Actually there are a few I'd love to make myself. :)
Keep posting!

Nice work Curry23.:) I like the creature designs. And your characters have that Pixar look of them? Or is it mean't to look like that?

That style.

Really? That's strange. Usually people say my drawings look anime style, I've never been told that It looks like Pixar.
I really like pixar movies though D:??? Maybe I watch them too much.

I've been watercoloring lately.
Plus a model for class C: Hipoly, lopoly, and casted.
EDIT. Oh yes, I forgot to mention. The original drawing for the crate that I modelled for class was an artwork by someone, but I'm not sure who, as our teacher assigned it to us. If anyone can inform me of the original artist I'd be more than happy to provide a link C:

lol nice cerberus
I really like your stuff, the characters are full of life and expression :).
I'm a whee bit below your level of expression, but the next step that comes to mind for me is to start to put your characters into places, or have them interacting. I'm not sure how important a sense of setting or community is to what you want to do, but so far it seems more like you're developing a great collection of portraits, rather than a collection of notes for a story.
It would be interesting to see some pieces that include where these characters are (and how they feel about being there) instead of exclusively what they are. Just a thought on something to explore for 1 in 5 sketches or something :). Wonderful work and always fun to see your updates.

It's funny that you say that because I've actually been doing that just today~! (drawing my characters together) Not in an envio. yet, but soon~!
Thanks for the critique though. it's true for sure!

great drawings,
ever tried a realistic render style with drawing? cuz i think you'd do pretty well on that,

Again, love the style. I really dig the guy with the tail in image 23. If you can get your style translated into your 3d work, I really think you'll have something special!

as far as realism, I've done some life drawing, especially gestures. But I have others that I spent more time on. I lost most of my pastel ones that I had because my portfolio got lost/possibly stolen. :C But I have all of my older black n white ones. Only problem is that I don't like those anymore XD. I need to get into lifedrawing again, but I've been told that we don't have the free workshops at school this quarter... hopefully I can find somewhere to get some in.
And as far as 3d, That's what I'm working on now C: I still have so much to learn, but there is oh so little time in the day XD. haha. I'm mostly doing hard surface stuff now, props and etc. but I'm gonna be doing some characters for friends pretty soon. I'll see if I can't post em online when I do~!
Thank you for the kind comments everyone!
oh yeah, here's a clock radio I've been working on today. I have lowpoly and casted too, but haven't made the layouts yet. hope you like em.

How optimized are you looking to get? It looks like you could take off a fair few tris from the inner edge of the handle, and there are a few loops on the barrel that are a bit mysterious. Did you have a 2500 tri limit by chance? If your goal was more to test normal mapping, and depict an inorganic shape, you've nailed it :)
