good stuff man, especially the first and last ones. How long these takin ya?

The forms are pretty tight, which isn't a bad thing at all. It might be fun to try some really over-the-top loose characters though and see what pops out... just for shots and goggles.

Also, its about fckin time you got a sketchbook thread goin!

Nice work,i can see you are improving.

That last sculpt,i can't really tell if you want him to be muscular or chubby. His arms look strong but he has a big belly. His lower legs need some work.
Also, his face looks to 'deep' when seen sideviews.

xysdf
05-29-2008, 05:53 PM
thx movento. your right - my idea is to place him somewhere between muscular and chubby, i still need some tweaks on that!

a quick head doodle from today

really like those shapes man , you really nail mid level detailing :)

xysdf
07-18-2008, 05:21 PM
thanks Johny! - I would need to work a bit on my high level detailing ;) , i dont know why i just love to work on shapes so much lately...

Have installed Silo this week (great program!) and first thought that came to my mind for a practial training piece was a sculpting-bust for "quick bust sketching" in zbrush where I lately just started with a sphere (ears are a pain...). First I tried to tweak a lot but soon I realized that I was just investing into giving him some sort of character - was not my goal for a sketching bust (which should be there to be creative for some moments... and some other moments) so I just looked to give some small hints of anatomy, pixel density on the right place and blablabla.

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/5725/sculptbustmaletz7.jpg

Thought that some may find it handy - SDK comes right --->THERE<--- (http://www.stefw.com/polycount/bust/sketchbust.rar). Free to use. But would be nice if you drop me a comment/crit if you say there is something that can be worked out a little better!

& thats a quick test on it
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/452/malebusttesttx1.jpg

works better than the sphere :) so I'm happy!

dfacto
01-29-2009, 03:11 AM
Hmm, I actually did a speedpaint that turned out having similar line quality. Are you using Barontieri's brush set or a derivative of it? If not could you post your brushes, I really like the ink style.

xysdf
01-29-2009, 11:55 AM
rens: for sure !
dfacto: i got him through a brushset of a coworker. he also did not knew from where exactly it came from, but yeah you are on the spot - its from the baronterie brushset (need to test now more of his brushes...). pretty much all the pictures are done with that brush (sometimes turning the brush a bit...), except the latest one where i made one out of the ideas of the baronterie and made also a different texture. interested people lick here (http://www.stefw.com/polycount/sketchbook/PS_brushes/inky_jan.rar) :poly124: its fresh
