i started to do some zbrush doodles/studies/whatever in the afternoooons
(crits are of course welcome!)
good stuff man, especially the first and last ones. How long these takin ya?
The forms are pretty tight, which isn't a bad thing at all. It might be fun to try some really over-the-top loose characters though and see what pops out... just for shots and goggles.
Also, its about fckin time you got a sketchbook thread goin!
04-18-2008, 01:13 AM
haha, yeah my cave already smelled a bit muddie...
ferg'eson: hey I tried to over-the-top loosenesss ;) . each piece, except the second to the last one (30 min?), took about an hour to one and a half
04-18-2008, 10:02 AM
04-18-2008, 10:32 AM

04-23-2008, 05:25 PM

04-29-2008, 05:00 PM
a quick doodle from today
i think i should start cleanin up & developing my stuff a bit more...
cool stuff man,
you should get your hands dirty with clay!
Very good studies. The guy with a moustache is awesome. Nothing to crit this while, I think. Your works are pretty solid.
05-01-2008, 11:58 AM
fudge, makes me want to make some animals skulls lol.
05-04-2008, 03:07 PM
hopefully it looks a bit more serious this time... bee-cows i was a bit more serious on pushing this time! hahaha, blablabla...
stuff from the last days: a zbrush study which i referenced of a plaster cast of me (i got it from a friend last year, lost some eyebrows, eyelids and i was in a fully shaved condition....) , then creatures....
Wow ! The first one is pretty cool !
i hat... uhmm love you!
now get some clay
05-05-2008, 08:23 AM
I really like the last Zbrush study, look really believable, very natural.
05-06-2008, 05:29 PM
rens: haha, yeah i really need to get one... guess tomorrow will be the day ;)
havent really done something like that before... hope ya like it:
05-06-2008, 05:36 PM
Really cool sculpts and concept
That concept reminds me of Silent Hill
05-12-2008, 10:09 AM
i got some clay (or plasticine? thx to rens for pushing me;) ) last week, made me some tools and doodled around outside in the sun with some coffee. it feels great working with clay, its relaxing - you feel everything directly.
calling him dude:
great first piece man, congratz
05-21-2008, 04:16 PM
started with a basesculpt for a portfolio piece. will continue on him on the weekend - he will get more clothes & story ... ;)
05-22-2008, 09:14 AM
Nice work,i can see you are improving.
That last sculpt,i can't really tell if you want him to be muscular or chubby. His arms look strong but he has a big belly. His lower legs need some work.
Also, his face looks to 'deep' when seen sideviews.
05-29-2008, 05:53 PM
thx movento. your right - my idea is to place him somewhere between muscular and chubby, i still need some tweaks on that!
a quick head doodle from today
05-30-2008, 04:01 AM
really like those shapes man , you really nail mid level detailing :)
07-18-2008, 05:21 PM
thanks Johny! - I would need to work a bit on my high level detailing ;) , i dont know why i just love to work on shapes so much lately...
Have installed Silo this week (great program!) and first thought that came to my mind for a practial training piece was a sculpting-bust for "quick bust sketching" in zbrush where I lately just started with a sphere (ears are a pain...). First I tried to tweak a lot but soon I realized that I was just investing into giving him some sort of character - was not my goal for a sketching bust (which should be there to be creative for some moments... and some other moments) so I just looked to give some small hints of anatomy, pixel density on the right place and blablabla.
Thought that some may find it handy - SDK comes right --->THERE<--- (http://www.stefw.com/polycount/bust/sketchbust.rar). Free to use. But would be nice if you drop me a comment/crit if you say there is something that can be worked out a little better!
& thats a quick test on it
works better than the sphere :) so I'm happy!

wow! this one (http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/2561/face1qu2.jpg) is amazing! the last one has a great face aswell, though his neck is weird on the back, seems pushed too far inward.
and thanks a lot for the base!
07-25-2008, 12:22 AM

thanks shotgun!, great to hear that from you... i love your textures&sketches btw !:)
one sketch from today, i already thought this day ends like a boring one, but during the end phase luckily someone called me, it changed.
you always surprise me with your crazy ideas stef,
we should put some of our skills and styles together on 7 or 14 february? (those are saterdays)
01-29-2009, 03:11 AM
Hmm, I actually did a speedpaint that turned out having similar line quality. Are you using Barontieri's brush set or a derivative of it? If not could you post your brushes, I really like the ink style.
01-29-2009, 11:55 AM
rens: for sure !
dfacto: i got him through a brushset of a coworker. he also did not knew from where exactly it came from, but yeah you are on the spot - its from the baronterie brushset (need to test now more of his brushes...). pretty much all the pictures are done with that brush (sometimes turning the brush a bit...), except the latest one where i made one out of the ideas of the baronterie and made also a different texture. interested people lick here (http://www.stefw.com/polycount/sketchbook/PS_brushes/inky_jan.rar) :poly124: its fresh
01-30-2009, 05:32 PM
You've got a really awesome, freaky sort of stylization to your work, I love it.
02-05-2009, 11:59 AM
hadidjah - thx man for sharing :)
its now just before going to a jazz pub for some sketching.... its with a Barontieri brush that got tested today
02-11-2009, 05:38 AM
02-18-2009, 05:33 PM
i have no idea what he is doing, what it should mean ... but i wanted to play a bit with colors today and took an older sketch and experimented on it
02-20-2009, 10:28 PM
he is obviously making armpit noises
04-06-2009, 04:11 PM
... true! :\
a color experiment from the last half hour of today, now its sleepingtime
09-16-2009, 08:31 PM
