@bounchfx:
thanks for the compliments! good to know that there's flavor in there

@rens:
hey its understandable man, everybody gets busy. thanks for dropping by.

@japhir:
thanks for noticing the progression of my coloring. if i remember correctly, you were one of the people harassing me to get more colored stuff out there so thanks a pile.

so here's locktopuss the galactic grappler! known throughout the universe as the greatest bipedal wrestler ever known! locktopuss sees through the ingenious "eye-belt", that keeps his focus on the opponent's center of gravity.

Now that would be fun to model. Too bad I suck so badly at organic modeling that it would make you cry :( I said it and I'll say it again and again: Awesome work!

sweet sketch . that boar-n totally doesn't give a shit bout them arrows in his ass! probably got attacked by all the fools that just got the ugly stick beat down.
I love your stuff, very fun.

@inprogress:
thanks for the props man, and i'm sure you could crank out a mean organic model if you set some goals for yourself, there's quite a few champs here that i'm sure can give us all some pointers on organic modeling (one of my weaknesses as well).

@breakneck:
haha you are correct! the air-boar-n does NOT give a shit about all the rear dmg. and thanks for saying my stuff is fun, that's usually what i go for.

so here is another mounted dude (christ jouste try and be at least a little original with your stuff). i do them also cause i draw on the skytrain to work and the fastest thing i can draw is a mounted guy so i do them quite a bit at lunch as well.

drumstique is named so cause his silhouette would probably look like a chicken drumstick in the right light. he's being ridden by a dual harpoon-pistol wielding bandito and has taken some weapons to the face!

luckily drumstique's brain works much better with some emergency trepanning and accelerates the adrenaline glands as well.

this attribute makes the drumstique a perfect shock trooper and favorite mount of the red-scarves. they taste quite good as well.

Man love both these last ones. I really wish I knew what I was doing with character models cause they both scream out model me! I might try my hand at a harpoon pistol because it looks like a fun weapon (if you don't mind). Actually make that Pistola because he's a bandito! :P (I'd say pistole cause it sounds better but apparently a pistole is some sort of french name for a spanish coin haha)

I'm in love! I so want to make a movie in your style of art! I'm working on an animated series now. Got pipeline running but seriously would love to do the movie in your style! You have one of the best styles I've ever seen!

Awesome! Not only do you draw great but the character behind them is amazing. Even when they are standing still they exude an entire story.

Love, love love your work!

Hey if you are interested in that movie let me know.

@saidin311: i know its been a while but hell yes model that harpoon-pistol! there isn't enough harpoon pistols in the world.

@belltann: yes the tongue is scary. thanks for noticing.

@flog: wow thanks for the passionate postings! well a movie sounds like alot of work and tragically i will step over my own mother to avoid any extra work. wither way, i'll keep crankin out the pics! glad you like em.

@ae.: that's not too lame. i am adverse to anything space marine-y but i may have to give it a shot. thanks for the suggestion.

so this is twigg the twig-mage. he's riding on a cyclopean rocket-skull which is totally bad-ass. twigg uses twig magic to smash his foes into smithereens and pull hats out of rabbits.

bone shards are also jammed through his skin to impress his many girlfriends and old gym teacher.

to actually acquire a cyclopeana rocket skull is pretty tricky: first you have to coax the cyclops out of his texas hold 'em game, then you have to decapitate him and set him on fire.

no easy task...

@marnik: hey thanks for the boost man.

keeping the quick sketches coming,

i'm getting anxious and i want to be ready for the DOM WAR and represent the gray and green to the best of my ability.

here's Muggoth the meteor master. muggoth is a meteo-path who can control meteors and asteroids through the sheer power of his stand-up comedy.

meteo-paths use their super meteor-kenisis mostly to intimidate larger species and steal their womens.

blasted out a quick barbarian during a convo me and a friend had about card games. this barbarian is so hell-bent on destroying things that he smashes right through treasure! zounds! what a focused warrior!

so I'm keeping up the momentum of the daily sketches so when the dom-war hits i'll be ready to keep the pressure up with a bunch of updates.

@marnik: thanks man, but i post all my pics up on polycount first cause its the best.

@lemonhead: glad to hear you dig. YOU by the way are stellar, glad to be following your artwork all over the place. we oughta do up a character swap or something once dom war is done or something.

@coldkodiak: i felt kinda bad for the skull now that you mention it. i picture him now going "oh come on man!"

@scoobydoofus: glad to hear that muggoth has got a fan! i really liked drawing him, he's pretty phallic which is probably why he's so awesome. thanks for checking the stuff out!

so i did this over lunch just to unwind staring at desecrator dang for so long. on the ride to work on the sky train and the way home i always manage to sketch out a dude on a monster with a mounted harpoon cannon on it. (alot like tug from way back). i really want to do somehting with these dudes because a whole pile of mounted combat with harpoon cannons would be pretty awesome.

this dude is riding a magmaur; an irate addicted monster with hooves so hot they glassify the desert sands! the rider is lightly armored so more of a scouting class.

so yeah, nice and quick and relaxed. pretty stress free, you guys all rule. jouste out.

over lunch i just cranked out this dynamic demonic duo! its howler and devil brain. whenever something lousy goes down in RL it tends to affect a couple of my next sketches so i need to get them out of my system.

not alot of direction on these dudes, except maybe that devil brain is a disembodied brain with horns. see? this stuff needs to get out of my system so i can do better stuff later on.

jouste
04-22-2009, 02:17 PM
@inprogress: haha that's actually a pretty sweet reason for there to be a floating brain. if there's one thing i can't stand it's poor taste in nail polish.

@jesterbox: *highfives* thanks dude, it IS actually that big.

@slappybag: lots of love back. and i don't think i want anyones babies at the moment. thanks for the offer, i'll take a rain check.

so i usually don't do this but here's a pseudo work in progress picture. i'm calling it "complete enough to post" cause my idea is there and i'd like to move on and come back to it another time.

this is protecterror. an idea i came up with a while ago. see there's these battling scientists from back in the day that are fighting a sciency gang war over laboratory turf. they make their frankenstienian monsters and go out and do awesome battles.

one dude would control the monster and be like a mobile cover piece. here we can see the guy's monster tanking through some machine gun fire as the scientist re-loads his ray-gun. the player controlling the monster would also be able to hoist the scientist player up to new heights, throw objects, or pummel other protector monsters.

the scientist would be controlled by another player, he uses the monster to advance strategically while firing at the opposing scientists with his cool concoctions and deadly gadgets. the scientist would also be very susceptible to damage and needs to stay close to his guardian if he wants to survive the turf war.

kind of a hammer-handed approach to the brains and the brawn thing but could be a neato idea. anyways i shall be returning to it eventually. i love drawing frankenstiens and battle-scientists so now i have a good excuse.

Dude I'd love to see your take on Aqua Knight:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqua_Knight

In short: Armored knights that ride armored killer whales and dual under water. The knight armor is based around old navy diving suits (with the hose that runs to the surface, only the knight suits don't have the hose) and looks badass.

@adambrome: i actually really like that idea. i've never really been one for manga fan art (unless its tezuka cause he's the best) but i will give that a shot for sure.

@speshlboy: dude your stuff is great. thanks for checking my stuff out. i always try and get some cheap laughs with my pics. it makes up for my massive shortcomings.

so its been far far too long. trip and family isues but i'm back! here to make a solem oath to get more crap done. thats right. all that crap i did before is going to be a sad amount whe compared to what i'll be cranking out now.

got set up at home with a brand spankin' new cintiq 12wx. (not the big one cause i'm lazy and love to draw on my lap). and it's been a blast breaking it in.

anyways. just a quick warm up, its the oarsman! another dude-with-weapon-riding-monster. this guy heils from the red-side and uses a really mean raz-oar (get it?) to slice up his foes from afar! the mount he's chosen is the cackling blue-beast; a great pack-mount, capable of carrying alot of equipment without losing too much mobility over rocky terrain.

cackling blue beasts have spongy scales and shaggy hair that absorb the stench of the blood-swamps they frequent. the toxins in the swamps eventually reach the brain of the monster, numbing thier pain receptors and shorting out thier humor gland. this makes the the tragic beast capable of laughing at pretty much anything and enjoying the comedy stylings of rosanne barr.

another quick one. here's notch! he's super tough and has been known to be a ruthless mercenary who get's paid by the swing of his mighty weapon. he is currently handling the cost for looking at someone (a 3 silver minimum), usually this is enough to destroy the will of the target and only in extreme cases will he have to bring down the club and start caving in some rib cages.

his name is notch because of those cool notches on his weapon, these notches are a reminder of how many times he's blocked something sharp on his weapon.

Jouste, those are awesome works. i was wondering, can I take a shot at modeling the Oarsman? :)

jouste
06-05-2009, 12:37 AM
@jerry: i'm looking for some software to accomplish said video. got any ideas? i like to gab as well, so mic support would be awesome as well.

@inprogress: of course you can! get on those polygons you modeling maniac! did you need a quick sketch or something with him standing?

its sharkula! a dreaded space-shark-vampire from the shark side of the moon! in his grasp is the most amazing RADSLAYER a knife so deadly that it needs 2 handles! a pneumatic dorsal-blade is also available for the constant combat most shark-vampires face on a day to day basis.

now as most vampires, sharkula needs blood to do awesome things. enter the BLUD BELT. on sharkula's waist is the blood belt and it displays how much blood sharkula has in reserve for doing awesome things. whenever sharkula decides to do something awesome (like beating up ryu or out-acting jeffery combs) a light goes out, reminding sharkula how much blood-moves he's got in reserve and how drastically he needs to fill up his reserves.

luckily sharkula slashes through piles of dudes, and wit hall that slicing going on there's bounds to be gallons of blood flying everywhere. a shark-vampire's scales are very absorbent and soak up any blood. they're like a bunch of little shamwows when it comes to blood. so basically, if sharkula focuses on using up his blood points to slaughter his way through dudes, he'll keep filling up his blud belt and keep doing awesome things!

initially i figure that blud belts can get upgraded with enough rank or whatever, like link's hearts.

so an older character i had that i decided to give a face lift. always liked the idea of a 2d sidescroller with this dude bloodening his way through awesome crazy levels. sigh, a man can always dream!

p.s. a very good friend of mine came up with a wicked idea that sharkula fights the undead in some encounters, cause they have no blood! so sharkula would have to be extra careful with his blood reserves.

so its another dude from space! its ptony the pteroman! ptony is a star tagger. he tags roving male star-beasts with his harpoon-tagger and they lead him and his shipmates to the herds where they can poach to their hearts content.

ptony lost his right leg to a very aggressive space-orca bull when his tag hit a very small cluster of nerves on the monster and it charged him. luckily ptony's good pal is good with cybernetics and he was outfitted with the wonderful robotic leg pictured here. the leg holds some spare ammunition and can open the side of a space-cruiser in a pinch.

pteromen are the galaxies' most ruthless poachers. they've been known to poach everything from moon salmon to space eggs. the pteromen's fur and ivory trade is a massive operation and they are also no slouches in combat. using their cunning and zero-gravity combat abilities they have gotten out of many a tough situation.

here's some zombie warriors! the bloodwalkers!. these dudes are a little clumsy but specialize in exhuming new recruits up from graveyards. a hunter of the undead can easily track them through their bloody footprints they leave, hence their name.

the quicker hand-spade bloodwalkers are more scouts, while the heavier shovel wielders are responsible for the heavy digging and dealing with any of the living foolish enough to stand in thier way.

@rollin: hey thanks man! hey if i ever had the chance to populate a universe i would totally jump at it and strangle it into the ground ;D

its root-omega the salad samurai! with his fierce zester-blade he annihilates the citrus swordsmen and any other fruit or vegetable based warrior that is foolish enough to test his metal.

root omega was grown by the gardener monks over the course of many moons. while he was growing in the battle enriched earth he was also bombarded with the sweet serenades of lou reed, keeping him totally on the level and chilled right out.

so basically it was late and i needed to crank something out. i think i have a new fall back if i'm out of stuff to draw. prepare for some concept sheets of more salad samurai during the wee hours of the evening.

dealing with the dead is hard enough here on earth, but just imagine getting haunted in space! when deadbolt, the shin-gunning nercomancer for hire, left his planet's atmosphere for the first time he learned the hard way that death's shit is waaaaaay more serious when lightyears are involved.

basically deadbolt is constantly being bombarded with cosmic haunts and ghosts as well as the armies of the undead. space is a super-duper lonely place and its dead finally found someone to talk to.

those two guns he's got are shin guns and hit you with everything from bone splinters to voodoo curses. treating the wounds from a shin gun is a real crap shoot as its effects are constantly fluxuating.

so deadbolt is the first in a few dudes i'm going to draw in a series i call "rest in space" where the main focus is how the undead is handled on a cosmic level.

it's knothead! that zany tree-man; wielding axes and chopping down everything standing in his way! we can see in this picture that he has chopped down a close relative and the squirrel is totally confused because now he has no where to store his nuts.

knothead never talks, usually because he has a family of crows living in his head.

that's a whetstone on his side there for weighing down his important documents when it gets breezy.

so its been a little while but here's fistface the star fencer! being part of an elite sect of space swordsman is hard enough, but the extensive training it takes to wield a rocket blade would make anyone cry like david schwimmer.

wielding a rocket blade is like fighting with a regular sword that is constantly trying to rocket off. once this amazing power is harnessed and in a professional's hands, they can parry pretty much anything, including but not limited to insults and laser blasts. a star fencer can also send it soaring towards foes with perfect aim.

apocalypse chow is a chow chow dog that forges the end of the world on his anvil-geddon. standing atop a mountain of skulls, apocalypse chow hammers out death and destruction to all the worlds in the universe.

when the dangerous coastal duels commence there is one snailien that slides above all challengers! its sam "slaughtersand" cargo, one of the meanest combat crustaceans in the galaxy.

he wields a cruel escargot fork that he uses to shred and stab his foes apart before eating their remains in a disgustingly foul victory feast.

we also see here are his side-snails. side-snails are holstered to sam's side's much like a cowboy's revolvers. when he feels he needs a little more edge in a battle he tosses them down and they spring into action. we can see that wibley is on the ground in this picture brandishing a mean looking prawn fork.

side-snails are great additions to a snalien's arsnenal, but the more you have the more you need to feed, so the more you have to duel. plus there have been rare cases of side-snails getting so big and strong from all the victory feasts that they end up challenging and killing thier owners and taking over thier titles.

@canden picard: thats great! always good to hear i got a laugh. thanks for dropping by!

so i drew up "topper waistdown the space ranger" he's got some sweet tech. he can flip a switch on his fore-arm device and "top" off countless of different monsters. in this picture we see him standing there and also becoming a blue skinned spine-beast from the waist down.

he's also been coined "the neck" among his platoon of space rangers as he generally becomes the neck of the creature he becomes.

what is actually happening is he is swapping legs with countless comatose aliens and monsters in a far off lab in large tubes. scientists, drugs, and massive amounts of shock treatment keep the aliens supple and flexible for topper's crazy adventures.

@shepeiro: are you meaning the tick? (http://cassafrass.files.wordpress.com/2008/02/tick-graphic.jpg) yeah i 'spose he does look like him. good eye. i was a big fan of that cartoon and i looove ben edlund.

@slingshot: that i shall! glad you dig wibley the side snail! those are going to be taken a little further as a friend of mine has taken a liking to them as well and is beefing up their backstory.

i did a character trade with a friend of mine (http://shwigityshwonshwei.deviantart.com/) on deviant art. he's pretty funny and draws a bunch of cartoony stuff and rocks the steam account quite hard from what i've gathered.

here's the original (http://shwigityshwonshwei.deviantart.com/art/WIP-Davy-Jones-zombiiis-121338650), the dudes at the top caught my eye so i combined them into one plaguespread marine and made him chase down a mouse cause he's super hungry.

kept it quick and clean (by my standards) tons of fun when working on something that's roughly established).

@shepeiro: thanks man! :D

@conte: you know i will dude! and i do have a ton of fun drawing these, i think it's VERY important to have fun when working on your own stuff. i think it really shows in the piece when you had fun as opposed to forcing it.

so i've been staying up late and watching bravestarr with the girl. this show was awesome. sci-fi sherrifs and ghoulish zombie outlaws. all with a great moral at the end of the show.

you want to know how awesome this cartoon from 87 is? there was a drug episode where one of the kids gets addicted to this "spin" drug. it makes him hallucinate and steal money from his mom for another hit. at the end of the episode the kid DIES OF AN OVERDOSE, not "oh i sure learned my lesson marshall, no more drugs for me!" the kid dies. this show did not mess around.

episodes had robot snakes, giant sand crabs, and techno horses that could go from quadraped to biped with a bolt of lightening.

the show had its flaws sure, like super annoying "prarie people" that talk like cow from cow & chicken.

so i decided to do a bit of fan art that was inspired from this awesome show. there was an episode when the main antagonist gets fired momentarily and they bring this new guy called morabond in for the badguys. he's totally badass and has a rocket crossbow that fires bolts that change into robot snakes and can steal suns.

its probably just nostalgia but i really dug the bold uses of color the late 80's as far as character design goes.

i tweaked him a bit for fun. here he is talking to a robot snake that stole his knife.

a quick lunchtime sketch i threw some colors on at home. whenever its a rough idea i tend to do em up quick-like to see if they hold any weight or are worth a revamp.

so its dead fred: the killuminum slave! and idea for another "rest in space" character.

dead fred used to be a regular space patrol man, until a meteorite of pure killuminum smashed into his ship, killing him slowly and painfully due to the meteor countermeasures attempting to maintain life aboard the ship.

so fred died eventually (and in quite the foul mood it should be added) but the killuminum went to work on his corpse the second the last shred of life left poor fred.

now killuminum is a crazy metal i totally made up. it resurrects the dead no matter what state they are in and it probably shoots lightning blasts or something as well. usually the metal is broken down into manageable slivers that can be activated by firing a current through them, but a piece this large has no such "off switch".
another problem is that re-animated corpses are very selfish and hold killuminum in very high regard. so poor fred needs to protect his chunk of metal from all the grabby space zombies that lust after it!

luckily the killuminum has probably granted dead fred some cool powers and abilities to help ward off the moaning fans but he is constantly bringing things back to life just by being near them.

killuminum is also used for forging space-necromancer harvester ships and beer coasters, but a chunk of killuminum this huge is bound to attract some treasure hunters. keep at it fred! we're rooting for you!

p.s. and i know you guys are probably all like "i bet the chunk of metal is like sentient or something..." but it totally isn't cause that would be silly.

@conte: right back at you pal. lets get some sketch trades going already!

stayed in my comfort zone again for a re-visit to one of my familiar dudes.

jack asstronaught, the most badass smart as in the galaxy! working on a variation of his armor. i wanted to stray away from my more generic space armor and keep it retro with rubberized sleeves and an older look. the previous owner of the armor took some mean rounds too the lower abdomen and after an agonizing death; was relieved of it by our donkonian friend.

the lights on his throat represent the greenium grade nano-bots he's chosen to amplify his toughness with. bluenium nano-bots are a lot better at quickly healing up a blaster wound but that comes at a cost, and jack has been known to skimp on his own protection to save a couple of bucks.

he's still got his sonic pistol in this one and he's got a hankerin' to shoot him some space fly!

@killing people: thank you kind sir! but you have made me crazy beer thirsty. so you owe me one next time you're in the area ;D

@conte: thanks man! and "the sketch trade" is simply, i pick a guy you've drawn that i like (like this (http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/9971/27393085.jpg) guy for example) and i do my own version. then you pick a dude of mine you like and draw your own version. everybody wins!

if you are crazy busy that's fine. it was just a suggestion. me and sectuars have done it as well as me and wizo.

@rollin: haha thanks for stopping by dude!

i wanted to reply quick and hate naked posts.

so here's a goofy ID type page i made for fun. it's ME the DRAWBARIAN!!

wielding a huge wacom-pen battle axe. it should be noted that i am hairier and alot better looking in RL.

drawbarians are a totally awesome class i invented. to become a drawbarian you need to first be knighted by jouste or anyone with a beard and a head band will do. after that you get your first quest, that quest must be given by jouste or a guy with a beard. quests range from drawing on the sky train too fighting an army of bears.

upon completion you become a drawbarian, joining the ranks of pure awesome, primed to wreck anybody with your sweet drawing skills.

swamphunter jones! and his awesome machete and harpoon cannon!

it's stormclaw skydagger! scourge of the air!

being a groundian tail-man, storm claw needs the help of the native giant dragon flies to fly around and shoot down the bad guys. giant dragon flies are more than happy to carry you around, the only trouble is is that they prefer some payment for their hard work flying for 2. this ends up being a steady stream of warm blood while they're air born.

luckily groundian tail-men are chock full of blood and can fly much longer than your standard dude full of blood. stormclaw is wielding a constrictor-rifle, these mean weapons fire a super dense line of grappling wire that wraps around foes, biting into their skin and binding them in a painful bundle and sending them hurtling towards a very messy death.

in the sky's of his native world are where all the wars are fought, to prevent too much destruction on the ground, most of the weaponry is made to make their victims fall towards their doom. this death is known to be the most frightening and intense for the recipient, there for the most preferable to deal out.

he's also fixing his other weapon with his feet, this weapon was damaged when it got too clogged with blood from ramming it into the stomach of his latest kill.

hey all,

i did up a mud maiden concept sheet! here she is with her "slay stick" ready to deal death to all who oppose the swamp goddess.

slay sticks are vicious weapons that are used both to discipline slaves, ruin survivors minds, and disembowel enemies.

there is a switch on the main head of the weapon that changes it's modes. the toxin on the needle is taken from horrible swamp-fiends and can destroy victims from the mind out within a few agonizing weeks of debilitating brain rot. the toxin needle is usually used when death would be a release for someone who has greatly wronged the mud maidens.

around their necks are filtration and translation collars that can make them speak with any cool accent they so choose. which is a pretty sweet ability. the needle in their headband is used for the galaxies most brutal interrogations. so legendary is the tortuous act that even the sight of the crooked needle is enough to turn the most macho he-man into a sniveling david schwimmer.

the needles are said to be from the backs of the mud-males but no one in the galaxy has ever seen a mud-male before. so it stands that there may be no males and mud-maidens procreate through adoption or something.

who's that holier than thou space man from afar?>

its waldo blackholeson of course! waldo was once a brave singularity technician who would spend most of his time hanging around black holes, harnessing energy and whatnot. until one day something shot out of the hole and blew right through waldo's torso! this happened so fast that waldo did not have the time to die properly and he floats through space on an endless search to try and find what is responsible for his ghoulish demeanor!

hey all!

so here's an idea that's been kickin' around in my head for a while now. it's called witchlock. there's three waring factions set in a fantasy/fairytale/scifi-ish story.

there's the witch-lock (pictured here) the warlocks, and the "un-kissed".

the un-kissed are what would happen if frog princes didn't get changed back and stayed in the swamp breeding ugly humanoid halfbreed monsters. the warlocks ride pitchforks around and prefer human sacrifice and the fastest road to power. the witchlocks meet in the middle and use more practice forms of magic.

the witch-locks main trooper is the "sweeper" class. these girls have bayoneted brooms for some mean charging action as well as some alchemy-grenades. they also attach battle wands to the front of their brooms so it doubles as a rifle as well.

we can also see that she has a smaller side-wand just in case she gets de-broomed or something. she also has a familiar in the form of a shadowcat. shadowcats are cats that became so stealthy they ended up striking a sweet deal with shadows and can assume their form.

i had a few ideas of things to play around with in this universe. like crystal-ball sniper scopes, and battle wand rifles. since i need to work on my females i guess i got a neat-o subject to work on.

thanks for checking it out dudes!

@slingshot: thanks for the boost dude! and yeah i'm just getting back into dame anatomy so my first attempts will probably be a little wonky. thanks for the feedback tho, i'll make sure my next lady-legs have more attention drawn to them.

it's mantor the mantis man! this marvelous insectian brawler loves chomping cigars and getting into savage claw-to-claw combat. those crazy spines along his arms and legs are razor sharp and used in the famous bugjitsu fighting style.

mantor's exoskeleton heals extremely slowly, so the scars all over his body seem fresh but have in fact been inflicted back in his rookie years (about 20 years in fact). mantismen have small vestigial wings that they beat furiously during combat to slightly increase jumping height and stir up distracting dust.

mantis men can choose to become grounded during their teenage years strictly by diet. they lose their ability to fly but become melee monsters in the ring.

@peris: haha thanks for the vote of confidence man! i too miss the characters that are actually characters. there is only really one character in games now, its the prison break guy. the caucasian guy with the shaved head.

this guy has been in mass effect, too human, force unleashed, infamous, red faction... the list goes on and on. like come on people! there are other people out there! the prison break guy is getting tired! put him to bed!

and i'd like to do the comic. but again i gotta pick the best dude for the job

it's starchop! the huge-rumped cleavian. cleavians are each entrusted with a small planetoid to protect and guard against the countless planetoid stealers out there. planetoids are usually populated by small race of size-based geniuses.

the smaller these creatures are the smarter they are, but as we all know, the smaller you are the less people listen to you, so it's a fine balance.

starchop has dual cleavers that can make short work of any potential threats to the planet, and he also has hilarious anecdotes should his blades fail him.

@wizo: wizo! where in the sam hill have you been? haha and i'm afraid i don't know a digg power user that well. ;D glad to hear you like the stuff!

egads! it's brainshot the thought sniper! a techno sniper so awesome he can pinpoint thoughts and ideas in your head and take them right out!

brainshot's psychotropic nano-cilator is usually set to "brilliant idea" and "un-wavering loyalty" to properly disrupt enemy forces from a mental standpoint. he's been sniping ideas for years now and is deployed in enemy territory to destroy any cunning plans or other shenanigans.

brainshot's calculated assaults are rarely noticed by anyone being effected by its super-small-sniper shots. after all how many times have we just forgotten something and it never came back to us? this is probably a thought sniper slowly tearing apart your idea process and ultimately driving you insane.

of course being a thought sniper makes it so other thought snipers are hot on your tail, attempting to take out the idea of finishing the mission or maybe even the name of ACDC's first front man! driving you crazy for the rest of the day because you can't seem to remember the answer to the question! that's why all thought snipers are orange-brained before deployment. their brain is drenched in a substance not unlike super-gatorade and encased in an electronic shell. your brain is so fast that it just outright deflects any mental attacks on it, including all thought sniping!

i painted bigger and tried some new line work and simpler color-palette. hope you digs!

here she is killing more bug creatures like in wizo's drawing, she's equipped with a mean obsidian spear, snap front garter belt, and bra that was purchased so recently the price tag still be danglin!

la-senzians always accessorize with hot pink nail polish and matching lipstick to strike fear into their buglian opponents!

so i re-visited one of my favorite characters, it's that super dense galactic templar the starsquatch!

wielding his grav-o-metric orbliterator and donning the stonesteel war apron of his ancestors, the starsquatch is a proud and noble space warrior that annihilates anyone who opposes him with his insanely powerful weapon.

the face-guard slots denote the class of the templar. this is a lighter starsquatch and belongs to the "scout" class of starsquatches. they usually pilot lighter spacecraft and have access to fewer weapons.

these hearty bipeds can also survive the vacuum of space for hours at a time and are the only organic entity known to be able to take a full energy blast from a warpwire laser cannon and "walk it off"

here we can see him in the "longstar" frozen voidfist stance. its a space-martial art so powerful that later movements can bend space time and unleash insane amounts of power at the cost of years of life to the wielder.

the annelidian rifleman!

far across the galaxy lives the disgusting race of annelidians, vicious hermaphrodites that sustain their horrible reign by consuming the blood of all who oppose them. annelidians are quite floppy and need multiple braces to keep their pliable bodies rigid and able to wield conventional weapons.

the annelidians keep loads of their prisoners of war on their awful blood farms and use the steady supply of vitae pumping to fill their gigantic supply silos. these silos fuel all the advancements of the annelidians, their brains only work at full capacity when they are on a full belly of blood (i'm sure we can relate). when an annelidian is starved they regress into a feral state, lose all reason, and will do anything to get a mouthful of blood.

here we see standard issue gear for the average annelidian soldier:

-cobalt flares are useful for both signaling supply drops and melting holes through heavily re-enforced hulls.

-the personal shield generator (PSG) can be set to absorb 3 energy blasts before needing a full day's recharge. they can only be activated for 15 minutes at a time.

-the slicerknife has been shown on countless galactic infomercials as an affordable way to eviscerate your foes and finely chop all your fruits and vegetables!

-the cook rifle has an abysmal rate of fire but makes up for that with unstable metallic rounds (UMRs). the inside of these rounds are made up of two dangerously unstable types of metal that are separated by a magnetic field.

when these bullets are "cooked" in the main housing of the gun they react with violently with each other creating a miniaturized explosion that can pretty much bore through anything.

the rifle takes up a lot of energy to maintain the "cooking" state so it is advisable to have a good idea of what you are shooting at before readying a round.

haha i hope he doesn't kill me for this, but we went rafting down rapids this weekend and there's an awesome picture of Jouste 'bronco riding' the raft through some Level 4 rapids (out of 5!).

There's a couple other PC'ers in the picture too ;)

@aesir: *highfives* much appreciated! thanks for the compliment dude.

@adam: haha, good times man! and i believe you have posted up a more ridiculous picture of me that involves a grandma blanket, so this one is very acceptable.
it should be known that beards give an automatic +4 to rafting so i knew i'd be safe at the nose of that beast.

rafting was awesome, and so great to go with such awesome people!

@spaceprincess: thanks there darlin! yeah i don't know what the big deal is. a steady diet of beer and pub food can grant anyone a caboose like mine. <3

it's lou garoux! the space werewolf saboteur extraordinaire!

being a hit-ship for hire lou used his werewolf powers to amplify his sabotaging abilities but could only work well during the full moon. so he did what every other smart werewolf would do. get a chunk of the moon and wear it around his neck like some kind of cosmic bling!

with his perma-werewolfism lou quickly became notorious around the galaxy as the most efficient hit-ship on the market and the jobs came flooding in.

hit-ships are like hit-men but they usually target ships or satellites or other kind of important tech. ships are a super rarity in space and super guarded and expensive. tactical destruction can seriously mess up a merchant line or important trade route.

we can see that lou has his trademark "holemaker" pistol that takes a multitude of rounds, each one being able to punch holes into a variety of metals, punish nervous systems, or knockout electronics.

the thing on his waist is a "blackbox" not to be confused with our plane's black boxes. these things have enough nano-bots to repair up too two fatal wounds. so its like having a health gauge in a video game. we can see here that his black box is all topped up so he should be able to take a couple hits before he needs to rely on his werewolf regenerative powers.

-------

so i dipped over at conceptart and did one of their "creature of the weeks" the topic was a "lich dragon boss monster"

here's mine.

maggotmaw tangleguts!

being a lazy dragon and an even more inept sorcerer, the lich transformation was not very kind to maggotmaw the necrotic dragon.

maggotmaw spent most of necromancer school chasing tail and getting hammered, this left him ill-prepared for the lich transformation. his sloppy necromancy failed to staple up his decomposing body properly and after the first spell he cast; his skin exploded. this left his entrails dangling down in a horrific writhing mass of gory-grabbing tentacles!

donning the name maggotmaw tangleguts he blasts all who oppose him with his maggoty, corruption inducing breath and strangles the life out of his foes with his man-o-warian intestines of disgusting death!

sadly maggotmaw's dangling innards have a tendency to grab anything they bump into including livestock, roofs of buildings, and even the occasional siege tower, this is akin to having toilet paper stuck to your shoe when leaving the bathroom.

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg219/1_jouste/cow150_final.jpg

and over lunch i did up a quick policeman! yes i know you are all floored that i would draw such a generic thing, but i've been told by people i take seriously that i should start doing some more conventional topics, like a swat guy, or a soldier or a cop. this could potentially get me going on having an actual job concepting something and upgrade my skills above the "party trick" level they are at currently.

don stevens!

so here's don stevens, he's a cop with a taser. don's eyebrows were burnt off in a methlab raid but he's still a damn fine cop. the only problem is that now he suffers from a severe case of arsonphobia that has cause a few problems in some recent raids.

a dyrt soldier!

dyrts are an extremely tough race of bipeds that live off of raw minerals decended from marsworms (a lot like earthworms but from mars). being extremely durable and able to regenerate at a very high rate; dyrts make excellent shock troopers and have been hired on as everything from guards to soldiers.

a steady diet of metals and ground has made dyrts take on many of thier foods attributes and some dyrts can be recognized simply from the radiation signature they give off in relation to the planets that carry the same signature. a prime example is the heavily irradiated glow-dyrts that have been known to take out entire frat parties by just showing up.

in this picture we can see that this particular dyrt has had a cruel joke played on him in the form of a sign and some tape. we can also see that due to their enormous sizes they are treated as vehicles and therefore given out license plates and signal lights.

this dyrt is equipped with a standard "1 ton issue" that is given to all aliens weighing in the neighborhood of 1 metric ton. this includes:

- militarium plate armor. militarium was discovered quite recently and quickly became the standard material for heavy duty weaponry. with its dull green color, militarium didn't need to be painted saving hundreds of dollars in manufacturing fees.

- 2 disruption grenades, these babies are used for taking out electronics and communication signals as well as destroying nervous systems on class-4 and over creatures (that includes us). think of them as flash bangs that separate your optic nerves from your eyeballs among other things.

- the impact rifle is a hard hitting weapon that deploys so much force that its been known to punch holes through starship hulls without too much of a problem. they are favorable to those who can wield them because there is rarely a mess to clean up later.

the impact rifle uses shells not unlike a terrestrial shotgun and can hold 4 rounds at a time. historically impact rifles were created when a scientist made the universe's most powerful shotgun and then taped it to another one just like it.

-------

so here's another one of those creatures of the week it was "Venomous, Pale Blue, Obese Egg-Layer", here's my quick bash at it.

the roe bloat!

positioned on its mountain of eggs, the roe bloat fired out the last few hundred eggs out of her ptoobes. (ptoobes are like tubes that spit out eggs). it's a weekly ordeal for the female roe bloat.

being the most egg-full species in the galaxy, the roe bloat creates eco-systems within her mountainous piles of eggs. these temporary eco-systems are chock full of eggy energy and keep a lot of the natives of the planet fed right up for a few days.

the main problem with the roe bloats is that it takes 14 males to satisfy the virile females. to fix this problem females (like this one here), are equipped with a potent venom that effects all males in the vicinity.

this venom comes out as a fine mist through her pores and once it comes in contact with the perpetually exhausted males, they can do nothing but get back into the driver seat and do 'em all over again.

this perpetual mating ritual has caused countless of fatalities among the male roe bloats, sending many of them running off to a life of celibacy as a space monk.

it's the hagian supermagus!

lo' its the hagian supermagus! descended from the equally disgusting and amazing hag fishes native to our own planet!

the hagians have always been very amazing science-mages since way back when they thought they were just messing around with "magic" and weren't aware that it was just super-science being effected by their wills and hand gestures.

once they engadged in the "war of the wizards" (an interplanetary battle between magicians) the hagians were outnumbered by the numerous swarms of the swarmians they had to think fast. the hagians decided to double their numbers by equipping all their mages with TWO magic staves! this doubled the size and effect of all their tricks and the swarmians were quickly annihilated with a few boughts of lightning balls and the odd lava-syringe.

centuries past and the hagian supermagus is still represented by their military, teleporting across the galaxy with a science focusing staff in each hand and a mean streak for any foe they run into. their science magic has become refined to a degree that it has not been able to be duplicated by anyone else in the galaxy.

the dual-staff science slinging style has also been managed only by the supermagus. any other race that has attempted this art has been met with agonizingly fatal results. bottom line is that its best to leave the dual staff wielding to the hagian supermagus' (obviously).

castle crashers re-visit!

so after winning top downloadable game for xbox live (put THAT in your pipe, braid) i decided to revisit those lovable lightning lobbing lunatics the four main knights of castle crashers!

in no particular order...

zounds!

it's the orange knight! ready to roast renegades and singe scalawags!

i always pictured the orange knight to be the short tempered hot-head of the group. quick to anger and jump into the fray. it is so awesome how the game lent itself to using your imagination to provide commentary and back story for all the super great characters.

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg219/1_jouste/process/CC_orangeknight.jpg

egads!

it's the blue knight! ready to ice enemies and freeze foes!

blue was always the big crowd pleaser for all my pals on the couch with his super awesome sub-zero powers. since i found his magic to be always maxed out for every body i made him more of a spiritual warrior. always keeping his cool, the blue knight here is shown focusing his icicles and donning a wicked cool katana.

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg219/1_jouste/process/CC_blueknight.jpg

tally -ho!

it's the green knight! withering wizards and diseasing dudes!

the green knight always seemed like the jerk of the group. like the raphael, all attitude. he was the first guy i went through the game with so i'll always have a soft spot for the little asshole.

who seriously poisons all the other knights and then runs away, coming back only after they're dead to make out with the princess!? i did, and i'm sure a lot of you guys did as well :D.

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg219/1_jouste/process/CC_greenknight.jpg

zap!

it's that paralyzing pillager the red knight! sending shocks to rapscallions and electrifying evil-doers!

the red guy got a lot of flack cause you could chain zap people in arena and they would never get up because his magic was a little unbalanced. however that did not stop me from drawing him.

i always pictured him as another guy that was more on the magic side of things, a kind of "power overwhelming" kind of dude. so here we see him shouldering up his mace and shield to unleash a zeus worthy barrage of bolts into some poor-bastard troll!

it's late, but its always a good time to draw some space veterans!

the lazarus legion!

there comes a time in any hard-core, gun toting, star-soldier's career that time kicks in and turns him from a hardened space commando into a senile ridden veteran. luckily with the invention of the lazarus suit they can keep the war going on well past their years!

the lazarus suit injects a horrible cocktail of chemicals and space-ox blood into the wearer that preserves both their body and mind. they are a little tricky to keep properly maintained and tend to wheeze a lot and constantly alert enemies to their location. the constant bickering about "the good ol' days" is another reason that the lazarus legion can never sneak up on anyone.

a lot of the members of the lazarus legion have been kept alive so long with crazy cocktails of drugs and gases that they've been promoted well through the standard military space code. this leads to medal saturation among the ranks of the century old soldiers and some pretty obscure titles. the actual structure of military ranking has collapsed so badly in the lazarus legion that they rarely listen to anyone other than themselves.

from this image we see that they aren't the greatest shots (although that target was placed 2 light years away so give him some props).

-------

been wayyy to long since i dropped my favorite dudes here a line. got caught up in some stuff but i'm back with a dump of art!

look out galaxy!
it's lunq the planet peeler!
lunq is one of the wielders of the cosmic brands; intense weapons that are so insanely powerful they are in a constant state of exploding and must be contained in a magnetic stasis scabbard that locally slows down time around the blade.

when brandished the cosmic brands have been known to detonate planetary cores, ignite atmospheres, and make nickleback not suck. there are only a few of these truly amazing swords in existence the known ones are "flaggrus, the eternal sunderer of suns", "hrr'zuuh, the galactic galvanizer" and "steve"

lunq won his weapon at a pot-luck as a door prize in a general mix up of deliveries (hey, nobody's perfect). once armed with the fabled "steve" lunq became a major player in the great cosmic game. ending violent demi-gods and quenching destructive galaxies before they even get a chance to spawn anything awful.

wish lunq luck as him and steve scour the galaxy for existence ending threats!

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg219/1_jouste/lunq_planetpeeler.jpg

yowzers!
it's the grenade spauldered hominid! ready to x-ray rowdies and vaporise vagrants!

i gave the hominid his pitchfork as kind of an inside joke for all those hominid players that reached into that haystack early on and never looked back!

another castle crasher fan piece i did for the birthday of the game.

@rooster: i have actually thought about doing that up. the problem is is that i need to find out which one of my characters is the coolest.

or maybe i should just not care about structure at all and just rock out with some randomness and let structure be damned!

thanks for the vote of confidence dude!

@muzz: sweet! my second subscriber! ;D thanks for stopping by muzz, always great to hear from you.

@conte: lol, yeah i know conte, i've been a horrible flake but i'm back! you've been ROCKING with all your sweet vids dude. sweet work.

-------

bah! slowly getting ramped up again!

oh no! hide your kheltin fields and blood crops! it's none other than sluds von starsworm, that slimy insectivorous enforcer!

sluds is a buglian warrior; buglians were once a force to be reckoned with but now are in shambles, confused workers and out-of-work soldiers stumble around the galaxy in eclectic groups of insectoid vagrants.

sluds was once a high-bodyguard of the omni-queen until she one day watched a full episode of two and a half men and suffered such a severe headache that it cracked her hold on the hive mind. once the hive mind fell the buglian's super organization and efficiency went to shit and the buglian's were nothing more than a group of nomads, always feeling a great void in their lives where the omni-queen's voice once echoed.

sluds has done alright. in the initial confusion he murdered all the officers that out ranked him and claimed to be the one true buglian messiah (sluds is as clever as he is deadly). he then donned the crown of swarms and now leads a rag-tag group of mercenaries known as the insectoid apostles.

his primary weapon is the traditionally gruesome "bug-chucks" barbed rods chained together and strapped down with bo'tharian agony-beetles. the venom is so caustic and painful that it has been actually loaded into star-fighter cannons and fired at enemies because it rates higher on the pain scale than laser blasts.

we can also see that crafting bug-chucks is not without it's heart ache. larry the agony-beetle (shown bottom right) has just gotten back from a business trip only to find his bride to be strapped to slads weapon! D:

so i was slumping and needed to just make a new guy fast and loose to keep my momentum on multiple projects going.

lo'! it's yults the yeti without a soul!

true enough yults had a perfectly fine soul until drack the despicable stole it from him! drack is a nasty demon that steals souls from pretty much anything he can get his hands on. this made yults a very tragic yeti, and he was exiled from the grand yeti-capitol because without a soul he failed to "get" any yeti stand-up comedy, a long time honored practice of the yeti culture.

fortunately, yults doesn't take any shit and tore off drack's hand before he got away. now yults ties the hand around his neck and like a grim dousing rod, the hand will twitch, flinch and point in the direction where drack is. eventually yults hopes to be led to the demon so that he can extract his big yeti revenge and reclaim his stolen soul.

the weapon yults and the majority of yetis prefer is the vampire club. these brutal weapons are actually carnivorous plants that feed off blood and violence and have evolved themselves into a perfect tool of bashening. these pods fire out thorns that puncture flesh and catch and drain the blood from the mutilated victims while the general impact of battle excites the growth and development cells of the plant.

once a vampire club's seed pod drinks enough blood they start sprouting roots that look for a place to anchor so they can explode their seeds into the wind to keep the beautiful cycle of life flowing.

so wish yults luck as he hunts down that soul thief drack!

@neolight: hey dude! yeah this is actually always the first place i do post all of my images. oh man, what a sweet dream! hopefully that compounds with some of my dreams and it makes that a cool reality! :D

that is a little weird for sure but makes me pretty flattered, thanks for sharing!

@sub_roland: you're welcome dude! and i'm trying to igure out what a good setup for a mounted dude would be on a sheet like these. they'll still be coming soon.

a lot of stuff under wraps at the moment so i took a bit of time out to get another guy down to loosen up my head and get back into postin' everybody has always been so supportive and awesome, a big thanks to all you screwballs here at PC!

surr the soupsmith!

in the grueling battles on thalt seven there was a company of stew slinging soldiers at the front lines. they were called the soup-smiths and their prowess was un-matched to any other warrior chef.

surr was their sergeant, a stocky newtian whose taste-sensitive skin aided in the crafting of masterful soups.

armed with a lid-shield, militarium crock-pot, and a war ladle, soup-smiths made their presence known on the battlefield with soup so spicy it would melt through the strongest of armor, or soups so delicious that they simply drove the opposition mad with hunger and wanting. some soup-smiths specialized in moral boosting chowders or hot-and-sour soups that would drive their berzerkers into a rage with a terrible frenzy of fanatical flavors.

there are many stories of soup-smiths that lacked the proper disciplines to craft the fine battle soups and after one taste; ate themselves into oblivion.

I have to say I love the progression you've made in your concept art style when going back through out the pages of this thread. You're more recent stuff is so much cleaner and better refined whilst maintaining or even reinforcing the charm in the style you've developed for yourself.

@killingpeople: very funky sounds dude, i believe wes borland's band has some very meaty and powerful stuff, very cool that it reminded you of my dudes! i'll keep them meaty and powerful! thanks for following pal ;D

@deusexmatteo: surr is enjoying it as much as a newtian with tasting skin can enjoy a soup. he is riding a razors edge of proper taste testing and losing himself forever in the flavors. wish him luck!

-------

wow, so lots of action going on, my pc fried, had to upgrade it all, was internetless for around 12 days *shudder* and moving into a new place. but i reaaaaly wanted to get something new up so here it be!

deep in the vorhees quadrant of space lives a terrible race of chainsaw wielding maniacs called the chudruckers. these horrific beings have deep pits in their brows that can actually smell fear! and since space is a scary place they have a brutal tendency to know where everyone is at ALL TIMES!!

the beady sextet of blood red spheres are the actual eye balls of the chudruckers and they sit atop their awful quadra-fangs that exude a venom so deadly that it's been known kill the pets, relatives, and close friends of whoever was bitten.

chudruckers usually arm themselves with the very impressive "twinsaw killotine" these weapons are so deadly and unstable that there is a 80% mortality rate on all wielders. this staggering statistic luckily keeps warrior chudruckers very sparse across the galaxy. when set to "kill" mode (there are only 2 modes, one being kill and the other being "viciously self-destruct") the lower saw spins violently and rockets off with the concussive force of 4 kilograms of TNT. the saw spins madly around, attached to a sturdy cord of invincium all the while the machine gun barks out a constant stream of super-hollow points in all possible directions.

tragically chudruckers make a very comforting purring as their main form of communication, and it has been said by their extremely durable translators that it is used to lure "cat people" to their doom as well as order space pizza.

klud korpsington is the only dismemberator in the quadrant that matters (the one where all my dudes come from) and he is a particularly dangerous fiend when it comes to the constant cosmic rough-housing that occurs spaceside.

@FlyByKnight: haha thanks pal! i'm glad you dig the characters. it's always a blast seeing people take them into 3D. Thanks for the kind words!

@SlappyBag: well you are in luck if you are near a printing place with a usb or something. for a limited time on polycount check out this 300dpi monster (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17634/behemoth_01.jpg) image of the necromancer! perfect for some people's printing needs!

@Nizza_waaarg: sweet! glad you like the weapon and back stories pal. always great to hear that the bad high school writing shines through.

well happy new year to all you awesome folks here on the boards of gray and green. there's gonna be a pile more crazy crap drawn hopefully better than last year in this sketchbook.

to start it all off here's cram the portalgeist!

cram is a mean ass draant from draantia. draantia is a planet that is rich in bluetanium; a rare mineral that allows for awesome jumps through space and time. basically bluetanium veins are linked to each other through a blue dimension that vibrates on a very specific frequency, so anyone with the know how can easily jump to any area where there is a large enough amount of the mineral.

the draant military consists of combat delivery men that get into the enemy territory through bluetanium bombardment. once the area is saturated enough with bluetanium they portal in bombs, aggressive troops, watchtower magazines, and credit card applications.

draants have 4 tongues that help them communicate with any organic race, they are incredible translators and along with their network of bluetanium trade routes and effective combat tactics, have become one of the more powerful races in the galaxy.

@inprogress: thanks a pile dude! always good to hear from you ;D!

here's another space dude!

the king leviathan is the galaxies largest battle cruiser. so massive is the king leviathan that it runs on a steady diet of small planets and supernovas. it was foolishly created by the crebbins of crebula. their complete lack of foresight left the king leviathan fuel starved during their first mission after someone plugged in the microwave and the coffee maker at once.

the giant ship has been hurtling through space with barley enough power to sustain its millions upon millions of crewmen. the lack of power also effected the ever-important "space-sanity" modulators that maintains the crew's sanity level in the deep reaches of space.

once the space-crazies had a firm grip on the crew they quickly became very territorial towards the many sectors of the battleship. creating tribes of workers and pilots who crazily climbed up the ranks of madness through self-promotion and cannibalism.

winky was a technical-maintenance alien in corridor 4 who lost his eye-stalk during a particularly tragic run in with another crazy crew-man. he is known to the remaining crew as "the butcher of corridor 4" stalking the hallway with "screwy" a modified wrench-hammer who winky considers his only true friend. he also has a few doses of "bot-shots" nano-machine dosages that can't heal back lost appendages entirely but manage to stop bleeding and heal up some of the more severe wounds.

life on the king leviathan is a horrible nightmare of psychotic space-men fighting ruthlessly over the last bits of remaining power that exist throughout the broken hallways. as the population of the ship dwindles due to its self destructive nature, the crew becomes more and more sane as the space-sanity modulators stabilize on the smaller crew. this results in a pretty tragic wake up call for all those involved.

o0 i like him

jouste
01-20-2010, 07:50 PM
@aesir: thanks for the boost pal! glad you like him!

deep in the forests there is a very skilled clubsmith who crafts the finest clubs any battlefield has ever seen. his name is buck and he doesn't mess around when it comes to forging those death-dealing bludgeons.

here we can see buck digging teeth out of his newly forged weapon with his club cleaning/repair kit. embedded teeth are a real problem when it comes to a club's performance in both aerodynamics and surface impact. they also tend to mar the finish. sometimes a club will get so much things embedded inside it that it'll snag on your cool cape or tear up your pants.

buck prides himself on his club-craft and his weapons are renowned for their durability and crushing power. all of his clubs are fire-treated over the poor-burning saplings of the elven gardens and the combat spines are torn out of the generally peaceful mouths of the grazing placidians that populate the local tundra. this results in a bludgeoning tool that is just as evil as it is effective.

buck also is no slouch when it comes to combat. he guarantees that all of his weapons have killed at least 14 things before they are sold to a potential buyer. a cockatrice's claw also hangs around his broad neck; these fetishes are considered so unlucky that they obliterate all other superstitions in the immediate area.

@willy-wilson: wow a book? hmm, i might wait until i can get a 1000 pager together. and they all have to be good. so far i'm still working on that first page... so i'm not too sure when it'll be out. thanks for checking out the skectchbook!

hey all you cool dudes and the odd dudette that braves the gray and green! just a cool thing that happened with my previous character "buck the clubsmith" it was fan-arted (http://dannycruz.deviantart.com/art/Buck-the-Clubsmith-151738833) by a friend of mine (danny cruz (http://dannycruz.deviantart.com/)) who is AWESOME at the classical graphite drawings and i totally dig it.

so just some more coloring practice, here's rutley the neck seeker!

rutley is a executioner who takes on only the grandest of executions. these high tier executions usually involve creatures and beings of massive power like dragons and demi-gods. rutley is notorious throughout the world of cosmic-criminals for his poor aim; usually it will take around 27 painful chops to get through the extra tough clientele that places their guilty heads on rutley's enchanted block.

rutley was given the job of supreme-executioner when he accidentally decapitated a super-dragon with an avalanche that was caused by some very focused yodeling. it turns out the monster was wanted for insurance fraud and needed to be made an example of in the super-dragon community its just that no-one really had the guts to do the job.

luckily rutley is a mole-hound and they are around 87% guts, so rutley seemed to fit the role perfectly. he now goes around to where he's summoned to lop off the heads of those beings that have committed the worst of crimes; such as talking in a movie theater or buying a creed CD.

yeah danny's art is really classic. i find myself getting all nostalgic when he gets down a good conan or some vikings getting their slay on.

-------

so i don't do too much fan art pieces but i've been playing a lot of league of legends lately and i just had to draw my favorite champion. here's that tanky monster dr. mundo! this beast is a cleaver-hurling berserker that can cause a huge ruckus on the battle field. if anyone has played DotA then they know how addictive and fun the gameplay is, it's one of those games that is so awesome to win and so painful to lose. team based strategy with a pile of fun dudes to pick from.

i really wish i had a chance to work with the guys at riot to develop all their characters. they just keep coming out with character after character without a hint of slowing down.

so anyways here's a piece i did up to start working on my coloring a little more, i had a lot of fun taking their character to another level.

@Ged: thanks so much! yeah i have to chuckle a bit when i see the stuff that's way back there but it really was a pile of you guys yelling at me that got me to start putting colors on these things in the first place.

@gavku: thanks gavku! haven't heard form you in a while. thanks for stopping by and dropping me a line! :D

@sub_roland: very cool! they aren't going anywhere at the moment so feel free to drop me a line when you've decided on someone! :D

so behemoths new game has a name! and that name is BATTLEBLOCK THEATRE!!! and it looks like an awesome fun time! check out the official trailer here (http://devblog.thebehemoth.com/?p=2130)! and then these two fan arts will make more sense ;D

here's the cat guard holding a player hostage!

and another fan art from league of legends. my good friend caley and I play together and he rocks malphite while i go mundo. he's a super rocky fiend that can hurl shards of rock as well as himself into combat. dealing huge wads of damage with his AOE's and brutal strikes! he also has a sweet shield that soaks up damage and regrows after ten seconds.

--------

so i've been getting involved in some feelance stuff which is both super-exciting and scary at the same time. wish me luck you cool dudes and dudettes!

till my net post; here's some more league of legends fan-artage!

here's kassadin, he's a teleporting jerk who can chase down heroes to nothing with his silences and blink strikes. he originally jsut floats there but i drew him feet because i really don't like floating dudes.

http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/039/f/c/a_voiding_kassadin_by_jouste.jpg

next, here's an underplayed support guy named taric. he was the first guy i kind of figured out so i still got a soft spot for him. he's using his awesome shatter ability in this picture where he does a sweet AOE that nukes enemy armor and deals some damage as well.

http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/039/c/9/shattering_taric_by_jouste.jpg

aaand here's sion. i honestly never liked this guys design but i tried to take some liberties on him. he's like a tanky mage character that talks like arnold and has a wicked shield ability. from looking at his boots i had NO idea how to draw them so i made them into these little stubby skull boot things.

here's Rammus! he's a tanky guy that can sonic spinball into the enemies, taunt, and create awesome tremors that demolish buildings and other players alike! he was a lot of fun to draw, i may have made him less friendly looking and more like a monster but what can i say, i love those monsters.

http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/085/d/0/rolling_with_rammus_by_jouste.jpg

and i also did up an old flash-game character for a friend of mine.

here's the red baron! and the coolest thing is that those cool cats at newgrounds actually turned it into a poster! (http://www.newgrounds.com/store/product/red-baron-poster)

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/074/f/1/the_red_baron_by_jouste.jpg

and just for fun here's a freaky demonic whale guy!

holy kraken!

it's that horrible fiend from the cruel lagoons of doom; whalestrom!

sacrificing his flippers for fierce piercing harpoons and donning the amazing cannon belt that allows him to explosively leap great distances, whalestrom is one nautical nasty! his back is bristling with harpoons and scars from all his assailants when he was a mere giant whale.

whalestrom wasn't always a crazy monster but was in fact a very dignified whale scholar who came upon a book of horrible, underwater incantations, the book was called the necronomiprawn and it left him the twisted monstrosity you see before you!

watch out creatures big and small, whalestrom's cruel appetite knows no bounds!

@yiannisk: great! glad you like 'em pal. thanks for checking it out!

@marlfox8:wicked, very cool to hear that you like them. thanks for the boost! ;D

@ZacD: glad to hear my simple coloring is ok. i can get a lot more stuff done on the side if i can keep producing stuff at that level. glad you like the poses!

@firebert: i love you too firebert. when will we see more lunq!? i must sees it! D:

@littlephoenix: hey thanks! i get a lot of "with a twist" references which is very cool. and hey, who hasn't been influenced by the starwars flicks?

@jocose: i know i got a livestream account, i just have to get somethign on the go. and i'm pretty quick but i don't know about 5 seconds ;P

--------

just to keep up some artistic momentum here's another 1 shade colored dude!

just when you thought it was safe to be dead...

out comes goofer the gravemonster! armed with dual spades of exhuming and a nasty potion of resurrection. goofer hobbles around graveyards digging up bodies and using them in his crude arcane experiments.

goofer also has some poisonous fangs in his un-holy arsenal that inflict horrible necrosis on any poor soul slow enough to get pegged by one. but really when push comes to kill, goofer is all to eager to dole out some shovel slaughter and has been seen whirling around in a murderous rage, shovels outstretched as his enemies rain down in glorious chunks.

http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/137/5/9/goofer_the_gravemonster_by_jouste.jpg

and i know it probably has been seen by everybody but holy cow so awesome! i have to post it here so i'll always have it in a safe place. Josh Lennon (http://www.joshlennen.com/dyrt/index.html) and James O'Hare (http://www.farfarer.com/portfolio/lougaroux.htm) are super champs for modeling some of my crazy dudes! you guys rock hardcore.

more quick stuff to keep me constantly on the move! *deek deek deek*

let's face it, sometimes you want your fortune told by something more badass than a strange old hag with some crystal balls.

enter the stabsayer! the guy that foretells the future with throwing knives!

stabsayers are wicked knife wielders that use "target magic" to do everything from telling futures to launching fireballs. stabsayers can look at the entrance patterns on a target and tell if you will either be a strong and courageous warrior, or some wussy scholar with practically no biceps at all.

but don't think for a second that a stab sayer can't mess you up three ways from sunday. those knives aren't just for divining, they are perfectly capable of jamming into you're sternum. in fact; because of their bloodthirsty nature, all stabsayers are pretty good at reading entrails as well.

Out of the first ten pages of your sketchbook, Star-Squatch & ragnarock-em sock-em are two of your best. Your quick strokes and color choice make them very dynamic.

The tilted horizontal ground plane for the background of Star- Squatch makes the whole composition move.

--------

anyways here's another drawing!

watch out all you battlefield bandits!

here comes woar boar the saddlecaster! watch as he summons minions of magic from his enchanted saddle to wage wicked wiles on his enemies! here was can see that the saddle caster has brought forth a skilled ice-mage to ride him for the time being. the ice-mage can hurl razor sharp missiles of frozen doom and lock foes in blocks of ice!

saddlecasters are extremely powerful mounts that summon a variety of riders depending on what the situation needs. a tanky knight for some defensive action? a brutal barbarian for some torso-cleaving antics? or maybe even an archer to take out that nasty set of siege artillery over there. yes the battlefield is your oyster when you take control of woar boar!

-------

so it's robot day on newgrounds so i felt i needed to do something up for them. its basically a day to celebrate robots and all things mechanical, so i present AMAZING TIMES IN ROBOT HISTORY!

so here we can see the hard up cave-bots battling the horrible mecha-mammoth. using plasma spears and laser clubs some cave-bots were lucky enough to bring down the beast and bring his spare parts back to the cave to build more cave bots and repair the elderly. in the foreground you can also see a scribe-bot carefully documenting the battle so that future cave-bot generations know how better to handle the dreaded mecha-mammoth.

http://art.ngfiles.com/images/82/jouste_mecha-mammoth-mayhem.jpg

and here's som fan art i did for those awesome dudes at epic battle axe (http://epicbattleaxe.com/).

i decided to draw them all in epic battle forms! i also added a sweet awesometer to the images to give them the feel of game characters or something, please note that i think they are all great dudes and i just wanted to have some fun mixing around redundant power levels.

first off we have Tony the tyrant of terror! here he is with some sweet battle scars and a mean ass axe, ready to destroy all lame gaming news! battle on Tony, you velvet voiced violencer!

then we got DK the death knight! that soul-patched soldier of slaughter is armed here with a sweet hellberd and can use his purple eye-magic to obliterate poorly presented gaming news.

finally at the end is Brent son of the slaughter! viking Brent is totally awesome and leads every show with some truly awesome alliteration, here i armed him as a dual axe wielding barefoot berserker, ready to bash and berate all those who oppose the axe-heads!

here's just some fun stuff i've been doing up with other artists to keep my skills loose and sloppy.

here's another robot day thing i did. i wanted to do an homage to tezuka, who is awesome and will always be one of my favorite artists ever. i hope i got his influence across in my picture of this galactic fencing robot riding his trusty motor-steed.

http://art.ngfiles.com/images/84/jouste_retro-robot-day-poster.jpg

here's a sketch trade i did with UltraPitchfork (http://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/ultrapitchfork/jouste-s-sam-cargo) he sketched up my old sam "slaughtersand" cargo (http://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/jouste/sam-slaughtersand-cargo) character while i took a bash at his lobstocrab (http://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/ultrapitchfork/lobstocrab) here he is! i made this guy more of a fiddle variant but i'm happy how it turned out! also note the suspicious starfish to the left ready to make a move.

http://art.ngfiles.com/images/82/jouste_ultrapitchfork-s-lobstocrab.jpg

and another trade of the sketch variety. it's PhatDoughBoy's (http://phatdoughboy.deviantart.com/) Higgins. i like the guy (artist) cause he draws with washable crayola markers. that seems like a hard thing to do. here's his original (http://phatdoughboy.deviantart.com/#/d2qtmc9) and here's my version of the fishy techno-assassin!

http://art.ngfiles.com/images/84/jouste_phatdoughboy-s-higgins.jpg

and just cause it's been a while since i did any LoL stuff here's some more!

so here's that previously powerful scarecrow fiddlesticks! a caster favorite for all you straw-filled spell-o-mancers.

here he is yelling at one of his crow buddies to smarten up and bounce around more! but alas the little crow has been afflicted by the nerf-bat! oh the scare-crow-manity!

watch out folks!

it's a highly skilled hellbeltcher!

these nasty shoulder mounted beasts are fed an alarmingly dangerous amount of fangoes and erupt caustic doom from afar with a violent vomity vengeance! fangoes are horrifying fruit that grow in small bunches on man-eating trees. luckily, the large yellow thrucks are not mere men and can pick these demonic fruits with impunity and use them to equip their shoulder mounted squadrons with their terrifying ammunition.

here we can also see the traditional thruck form of war decoration, where a gold studded iron nail is driven into the thrucks shoulder. this particular thruck is quite notorious and has been awarded enough shoulder spikes to equate at least 8 successful missions.

as for the hellbeltcher itself, it is usually made from an iron-bellied regurgitater. these lizards are usually held in place with splints and other bondage and affixed with a crude glass scope. regurgitaters are so sturdy that they can go for months under these horrible circumstances; being constantly crammed with noxious fangoes and bombarding bone-headed beasts with bulimia!

cover your heads and flee friends! else the hellbeltchers will claim another disgusting and slimy victory!

hey my polycountians! hope all is well on the green and gray landscape that is our realm!

here's a character i came up with recently that i've kind of taken a liking to. his name is fetch and he's a young snarl who has been forbidden by his hellish masters to not be able directly harm any mortal as a cruel joke. now the snarls are a race that needs calamity and chaos or else they starve and wither away into ghostly messes, what is fetch supposed to do!?

well fetch is both aptly named and cunning and decides to enlist in the aid of extremely monstrous beasts and plays fetch with them with catastrophic results. fetch will toss his sticks far into villages, gatherings, battles, and even fortified keeps and smile as his lumbering pets will fetch the stick while destroying everything in their path on the way in and out.

pictured here is a pinkback boulder hound, one of the first creatures playful and powerful enough to keep snarl fed up with a healthy amount of chaos. pinkbacks are so strong that during mating season, they are sometimes used as catapult ammunition because they survive the initial impact and go into a terrifying pain and lust induced rage shortly after landing. this destructive treatment is why they were named "boulder hounds" because they are treated as boulders for siege purposes if they can be properly contained.

i believe that fetch will be drawn again! i hope you enjoy the brainy brat as much as i do!
