It had been some time since i did 3d and i had never really done much character rendering so i thought it was time to try out a few things.

I used zbrush for sculpting, 3ds max for modeling, vray for rendering and used a standard vray material for the skin. In the end i did some post production in photoshop

nice start on venom, hes got a bit of a beak like a lizard in your version , even with the teeth it will look odd, more of a skull shape to his head would be cool, like this:

ooh cool! Do you have any more plans with it like pressure sensitivity and smooth strokes? It's always fun to paint with symmetry =)!

hehe nja mss een oproepactie doen :p

well i am planning on expanding it and pressure sensitivity will probably be included this summer, maybe even networking so you can do some kind of opencanvas like painting but without having to go to hamachi or something simular to setup a connection.

I had to present this today for my exam and up until now it had to be coded with standards in mind which takes a lot of time to add, from now on i can be a little looser with my code so i can add features more easily but try to keep it running smoothly.

This is one of the more interesting sketchbooks I have looked at - the subject matter is all over the place which is interesting, but most of all its watching the progression of style and technique ... looking at the 2010 work ... one might not even associate the 2008 work with the same artist if the in between work was not there to connect it - GREAT PROGRESS - keep up the good work:).

Isn't some of that stuff in post #62 based on some of Dave Rapoza's art? (Commonly known as Mr. Delicious) Pretty cool to see it in 3D. I especially recognize the guy with the mustache.

Yeah, that's the only one I really recognized. You did a great job with it! That patch of paintings he did around that time were really pretty neat, it's cool to see such a good 3D rendition.

I'm really digging your scuplts, I'm considering saving some of them for head refs to study.

awesome work! I especially like the gif of your progression of work, lol to the smiley face and freakin awesome sculpts, any tips for someone new to zbrush/mudbox?

Shootandrun: the best advice i can give you is to learn the UI and features first and then start out simple. It all depends on what you want to sculpt but you should make sure that when sculpting you try to get the forms right first and keep the detail work for the very last.
start lowpoly and only subdivide when you pushed the limit of the subdivision you are working on (mostly noticeable with stretching polygons)
I like using the claytubes brush to start sculpting the forms in at first , it keeps things rough and keeps your mind from going into the details right away.

If you want to start sculpting anatomy make sure you have TONS of reference, i'm very bad at reminding myself i need it but its a big must if you want to make something believable and it pushes you towards becoming better as an artist (you cant sculpt what you dont know).

you should look up some anatomy drawing ebooks of bridgman , Loomis and hogarth. They give you a good insight on how anatomy works.
