nice work hawken :) always enjoy looking at your work.

pior: the wire i used looked pretty much exactly like on this photo (http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/1223752/2/istockphoto_1223752_wire_roll.jpg). to straighten it out i wrapped it around the drainage pipe outside the building and pulled the ends back and forth. works like a charm.
finished another study (made of wood) today but i didnt take my camera with me today. will post it tomorrow i think. these studies are fun to do :)

I'm liking that vector work, hawken. Nice and clean portraits, they really take advantage of the vectors, while embracing the limitations.

everything has to be using stock assets, but you are allowed to make materials & particles using those assets. Nothing can be used from an external program. Deadline is June 30th, I'm about 65% complete.

Lee i see a lot of cool stuff in there but i'm haing an awful time telling what's what and what's where. -- just a mess from that angle, tons of visual noise. You planning to split it up a bit more with lighting, or what?

Lee3dee
06-19-2008, 09:47 AM
SupRore: the warp environment is temp, making a custom shader that looks a little better :) and I have to do a lighting pass. yeah, its no where near the polish stages still adding decorations.

Klash120: Nice work. The black handle might be because the 90 degree angle on the end is just too big a change for the normal map to handle. Adding in a wee bevel at the end should allieviate that :)

Super: Nice work. Is it based off someone? He looks familiar but I can't place who/why.

Fixed up the major crits, I think, although the manly jaw stays :P I'm about ready to call her done, unless there's any major changes need done (or really small quick tweaks).

Screenies from HLMV (Ep2 Source engine) this time. Looks a little odd in it, I think mostly because the engine gives much more preference to the straight diffuse texture. I might put her into UE3 instead, see if the results look more polished.

I think that adding some noise to the spec texture would help, along with more color variation and dirt (she is a hunter/survivor person, so I'd guess she'd get dirty after a while, especially the shoes and pants).

The eyes are too close together, the hair seems to have a seam line in a lighter shade when it should be darker around the hairline to the face skin + she should have little bits of fluffy stubble inbetween the braids to break up the perfect looking nature. Needs some depth, more shadowing around hairline, nose and mouth.
*Edit, just thinking, the prominent parts should be darker as the sun will hit these parts and her melanin will kick in giving her a tan.

Looking good Funky Bunnies :)

Any plans to make the rest of the Bucky O Hare crew? Probably been about 15 years sense I last saw the show but If I remember correctly it had a quite a diverse cast of characters. A 1 eyed robot, a gorilla (Bruiser was it?), a rabbit with pink hair, some human kid, and of course Buck O' Hare himself. Not sure if I'm forgetting anyone, but would be neat to see the full cast in 3d.

Funky Bunnies
06-21-2008, 10:43 PM
thanks, Levus and PolyHertz :)

You've listed about all of the crew of their ship, probably better than I could have. I had to watch some episodes with my nephew to jog my memory. It would be pretty awesome to do them all in 3d. Maybe I'll give it a go at some point. I was thinking about moving to another saturday morning cartoon next though - maybe I can even do an original character if I want to get really adventurous! haha

Ironwolf try removing the smooth groups when doing poly work, save it as a last 'pass'. When modeling it only works distracting. You can also just switch the view to faced instead of smooth faces. Anyway maby you just gave it the smooth look just for posting, still i'm instrested in the topology, can you post a wire of your progress?

It looks to be a gooch shader where the color is based off of distance from camera along the vertical axis, and some camera normal component as well.
Above camera = blue, below camera = orange.

spent an hour screwing around modeling this and putting in unreal for fun this morning. The model and texture was done in zbrush and then optimized and UV in max. Final model came in at 570 tris for the up close model The farther lod one will probably be just a box with chamfered edge. The textures are all 512x512 with the third one being emissive mask, Specular and reflection each in the RGB channel.

stupid max wont bake aos right... when i use skylight and light tracer, it doesn't use my normals. when i use the mental ray setup, only half of the objects get baked for some reason.

any ideas?

Jonathan
06-28-2008, 11:15 PM
Are the UVs mirrored? Are the mirrorved/overlapping UV island out of the 0,1 UV range for baking, if the UVs are mirrored?

Are you using the cage to bake them? We need more details for more help. :)

Also, see if the UV islands that aren't baking (assuming it's not mirrored) see if they're flipped, as that's something with Mental Ray, where flipped UV islands do not project correctly).

I saw WALL-E this evening.. I guess you can say I was inspired. Such an amazing film.

Nilium
06-28-2008, 11:58 PM
slum: Looks awesome. Might want to use a cube/sphere map though, since it's not very fitting of either area of WALL-E. Also, when you're done with that, can you get me a 1680x1050 of it? :P

Target_Renegade
06-29-2008, 02:15 AM
@Racer445: This works for me - go into sub-object mode of the object you want to bake, select all polygons then hide them. This still leaves the projection mapping and lets you bake.

I think the texture sise and polycount on those flowers is way to high compared to the rest of the scene.

MachineMinded
06-29-2008, 04:17 AM
GCMP: I agree with Japhir, you have really big pixel density in very small piece of the model.

You have a lot of space in the map where your stones are. You could easily throw everything those flowers use in that map(and scale them down while you're at it). And you should cut down the polygon usage on the flowers as well(and perhaps throw some of those saved polygons on the stone base thing). Again they're a minor detail and they have much larger polygon density than the whole stone thing(which is more visible).

With the flowers you could probably get away with a plane and a 3/4 sided cylinder. Or four tris in a X formation, if you want some shape there.

I hope this helps.

nkoste
06-29-2008, 06:44 AM
Your stone textures also have a more sci-fi panel thing going on than a stone construction. I would remove those bevels entirely and create a base that look a lot more like stone. Maybe work with some rocks that haven't been carved out so meticulously and construct the grave out of square blocks.

Its called FOOT BALL. Heres the hint... You use "FEET" to play it.

That OTHER sissy sport you play called "football" is a big pile of pussy filled shite. Its called "Rugby". Real men don't wear padding.

I love this board software.
Anyway for the pro/competitive gaming community i have to WATER DOWN my game from near-scratch to satisfy that specific, picky vertexlit crapgraphics seriousgameronpoorass5200/7300 video card crowd :( doing 16x16 alpha test effects (http://openarena.ws/shots/ihtg/ihtg1.png) (with a lot of shared simple textures, still a long way to go (like redoing every model), looks worse than oa 0.1.0 atm)

Just a barrel full of glorious, radioactive waste. Still kicking around ideas on it, probably will model some scene elements (plus emissive ooze!) and then get a better beauty shot of it.

SupRore: I am also not sure of what to say about that. Sports-talk and bickering be gone from SWAYWO!
Nick: Excellent conceptin'. Just another reminder that conceptart.org kicks ass
MasteroftheFork: Sweet sculpt. If it is a likeness of someone famous I don't know them (it looks familiar but I can't place it). If I knew who it was I could give you a better crit.

rugby is actually much more sophisticated and tactical than football ;).
i don't mind what you call it, it's still the same sport :P. i do like to play it with a couple of buddies but watching it is kinda boring, except when my own country is playing and winning hard against italy and france (the netherlands) (and then losing to russia)

Sahib, did you use Ben mathis' outdated and ridiculous noise clouds in r/g/b channels trick? There's some weird and bad looking colored cloudiness going on in your texture and it really isn't helping. Clean, well rendered details are always going to look better than unfocused blurry variation on skin. Some inspiration, maybe --
