Paint Effects

I want to create a custom paint effects brush in maya consisting of a single poly with an alpha texture applied to it so that I can use it to create hair... can't seem to figure it out though cause I'm stoopid /images/graemlins/ooo.gif Anyone know the answer or know where a tut might be? it would be greatly appreciated.

i dont fully know the answer, but where I would begin is with some of the existing brushes that do that- I think theres one with a hand on it that does something similar
