Today is a very sad day, certainly for fans of The Wheel of Time series, for James "Robert Jordan" Rigney passed away yesterday. He succumbed to primary amyloidosis, which he had been fighting for nearly two years. I had been following his condition on his blog, and I must say that I was very disheartened to learn of his passing.

My heart goes out to his family members and friends. I'm sure there are at least a few fans of the series here on Polycount, so let's take a few moments to remember such a great mind. Carai an Caldazar!

That sucks. Loved his early WOT books. Hope his family is holding up alright.

Damn that sucks. The game brought me to the books I only made it to "Lord of Chaos" it seemed like he never was going to stop. Maybe I'll have to pick up the remaining books.

Wow, I can't believe it. Ten or twelve years ago, I used to be a regular poster on the Robert Jordan usenet group, and it seems like every month we'd get newbies in with questions or rumors that he had died. More than once there were threads about what would happen to the series if something should happen to him. To actually have that happen, with pages already written in the final book... I'm sure that the remaining novel will be completed in some fashion, Jordan seemed like the kind of guy who would have covered his bases, but this is going to bum the hell out of me for a while.

I still remember where I was when I first read Eye of The world, and I even met Jordan at a signing when Path of Daggers was released. I started to lose interest in the series over the last several (and very meandering) books, but he will really be missed.

What a drag. I read the first two and half of the third... I planned to eventually read them all if the series was concluded.

I got bored with WoT around book seven or so because nothing was happening... Maybe in his next life he'll learn to write more concisely /images/graemlins/tongue.gif </bad taste>
