I was just curious as to which apps most people here preferred for reconstructing concept mesh into workable mesh?

I use silo. Eh, not much to say here.
Oh, silo1 sucks at handling big meshes and retopo often crashes.
silo2 doesn't crash like that and is fast with big meshes.. but doesn't save your retopo lines in the file for some messed up reason.
So, they both suck, and I use them, makes sense.

Max + Polyboost is the last thing I used, but I've not tried any of the alternatives first hand.

Maya and its built-in MakeLive ftw /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Modify > Make Live
Every vertex you drag will be snap to the surface of the objects set to "live". The wireframe might be confusing, I use the highquality rendering to make the source mesh visible. You can even make it transparent by tweaking its shader.

Has anyone tried topogun?

Blender
I'm surprised Gwot didn't jump in already...
maya with NEX (http://draster.com/component/page,shop.product_details/flypage,software-flypage/product_id,35/category_id,7/manufacturer_id,0/option,com_virtuemart/) plugin, quite dope

Had a quick go with a demo version of the NEX plugin for Maya a few weeks ago... Awesome! So I'm with vahl and Gwot.

Silo2, but using surface snapping, not the topology tool. NEX-like click-drag would be nice, but even NEX isn't enough to make me want to model in Maya /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Well I'm trying out Nex at the moment and I've gotta say it's damn nice. Given a little time to get used to the tools and hotkeys I could really see this speeding up my workflow! Thanks for the heads up!

If you go to the forums at http://draster.com/, I believe there's a recent preview vid up that shows off some of the new features in the next release. I don't have my login here at work or I'd link directly. Some pretty cool stuff.
They are continuing on with the 'less is more' approach with their tools - something I've been bitching at devs about for a long time. Funny how it takes a completely new/unheard of company to implement this stuff. Even funnier that it would happen in Maya of all programs.
I just wish NEX could support custom mouse binding. That feature continues to give Silo a huge workflow advantage over pretty much anything else.
Edit: got the link from home...

omg...in the video his face highlights when he hovers over the selected face.
I would kill my neighbor's dog for this in Max /images/graemlins/frown.gif
Ott, I think someone coded something like tha tfor that also. Or maybe I'm just confused... Not sure.
As for retopo, Max with Polyboost. Tried Silo's also but didn't like it's retopo workflow that much.

Ott: wait a couple months and you'll have it. I hope you'll stay true to your promise

Yeah Ott you better keep that promise and don't worry about getting caught we can just blame it on Micheal Vick.
