Every time I sculpt in zbrush I get that blobby look and even though I have tried many things, masks and what not I get the same bad results. I don't seem to be getting it.

I usually start with the no subdivisions, detail as much as possible then go up slowly, but I usually end up going high and not getting good looking details. They all look blobby and I can't seem to get sharp details. If I make the brush too small I get like a horrible pixelated look that seems to be tearing the mesh.

What are good z depth values to use? I usually stay between 5 to 20. If I go higher I don't seem to have any fine control at all. Any hints would be great! Thanks.

It looks like you are doing it right, provided that you are using a tablet and not a mouse, cause if you using a mouse your are doomed. I guess then is a matter of practise, i usually sculp between 5 and 20, then play with the pression you do on the pen.

Also make sure that you set up the Mouse Average to a higher value then the standard one, dunno on which of the menus it is as i don't have Zb here, but i think is on the Stroke one or something.

Smooth and pinch more!
And yes, try tweaking the Mouse Avg to 2-3 in the Stroke menu, like Vitor suggested.

don't forget to try setting the tablet (given that it is an intuos) to data recognition mode in the driver panel.
