Awesome KP! Looking forward to what your going to be doing:)
02-05-2007, 03:00 PM
Your greentooth is my new background at work! For a constant reminder to come up with ideas!
Hanging to see your concept.
Gotta follow caseyjones lead. tis a good wallpaper for a time of war
02-05-2007, 11:13 PM
i'd make it my wallpaper too, if only i had a computer to use wallpaper on /images/graemlins/frown.gif
KP you were tag-teamin' it last time around, and while it was cool, the full meal deal never showed up. so with you busting it out solo on the mic this time, as well someone as talented as you should be doing, i want to see YOU show all these silly kids how it's done. you've already been more than a role model in showing that at polycount posting a topic = posting content... so let's see your initial sketches, man! /images/graemlins/smile.gif
02-06-2007, 09:14 AM
just noodling around in photoshop - i haven't hit anything i particularly like. they all appear very similar to me. i was getting a little frusterated so i headed to the bar with my sketchbook, did some fun sketches there, but nothing that really helps. i wasn't feeling very creative, i'll have to try again when i make time.
02-06-2007, 10:53 AM
Make your next sketches without bear...its much too blury! /images/graemlins/wink.gif
02-06-2007, 06:52 PM
consuming SapApple seeds
are hazarous to your health.
Eat only the ripened ovary
the SapApple absorbs cancers
and poisons in the body, keeping
it healthy. The seed of the fruit
is highly toxic. The fleshy meat
is edibale and comes in three
flavors: Apple, Grape, and
02-06-2007, 06:59 PM
that is so gross, I love it.
02-06-2007, 07:26 PM
i'll wait for the lemon flavor to come out. i have your gloves. ill bring them to you tommorrow if i remember.
02-06-2007, 07:35 PM
oh by the way..this method of going blurry-to-clear is genius...it really looks nice!
wow that is so repulsive /images/graemlins/smile.gif i think you will disgust the judges into victory /images/graemlins/smile.gif
02-06-2007, 07:44 PM
02-06-2007, 08:31 PM
looks like that rash your mom gave me last night
common kp, MOAR
02-06-2007, 09:15 PM
Looks like that guy has purple-helmet-itis
02-06-2007, 09:21 PM
Dope as always kill. Cant wait to see your stuff.
02-06-2007, 09:36 PM
I just threw-up a little bit in my mouth...
02-06-2007, 09:48 PM
I'd hate to see him when he gets excited.
02-06-2007, 10:36 PM
you sick bastard...for once can you do something with cute unicorns or teddy bears?
02-06-2007, 10:43 PM
ah! you just gave me a badass idea! but first! zzz..
02-07-2007, 11:08 AM
Man! looking awesome. I wish i could see your professional work you've been doing lately. KP leveling up!
02-07-2007, 12:38 PM
You grossed out Sectaurs, well done!
02-08-2007, 10:46 PM
i keep coming back in hopes of more tantilizing flavors, only leave with drooling lips and unsatisfied.
i love what is there so far, bring us some more, i want to see where this is going
02-09-2007, 01:02 AM
Could I suggest some sort of chemical warfare type agent to ya? Basically some sort of walking pathogen agent? Not so much a stereotypical white trenchcoat with some syringes, but the character itself is the emitter? Just am idea for ya.
02-09-2007, 01:35 AM
you seem tired, KP, i can feel it. when you talk about going to the bar and coming up with nothing, and these two mostly no-idea doodles... i know you've got all the good stuff inside, you just need to start drawing from a different well. this one's done dried up for now, which is like the worst feeling as an artist.
my suggestion is changing up your workflow. i'd suggest a concept-tag style iteration-from-abstraction type of thing, since i know it helps me to have some 'raw material' on the canvas to carve into and play with if i'm feeling idea-less... but i think more than anything, you need to come back down to earth out of paintery-land.
for the last year or more you've done some really great stuff with composition, lighting, color, custom brushes (and soft brushes, especially), but i think you need to temporarily forget all that, since it seems to be causing more trouble than good while you're in your early stages.
paradoxically, i think working under narrow constraints can sometimes be the most stimulating thing for creativity--do something to bust you out of your normal routine and comfort zone. like if you're doing the sketchbook thing, go with a pen or something, something you can't easily correct and possibly something that discourages shading. i tell you, recently in my sketchbook, i was waffling with the nastiest, half-baked shit ever, when i switched to ballpoint and it was like a light going on. i told myself no more shading, and i started busting out detailed, interesting looking character sketches.
so that's an idea... use a pen, use something you usually dont use to draw, be it either in photoshop or on paper, and run with it. or use one of those techniques, like never lifting your pen from the paper while drawing, to give you some sort of restraint to put shit down.
i think you'll come around in no time /images/graemlins/smile.gif
02-10-2007, 02:50 AM
i appreciate the time you've put into your comments gauss - they truly are invaluable to the community here. i was tired and waiting for the weekend. i just read what you wrote tonight and you're very right and had offered some great advice - thank you again!
luckly, i still had some steam in me tonight.
02-10-2007, 03:03 AM
Ooh-da-lally!, this is killer.
02-10-2007, 03:03 AM
i think everyone knows this feeling.. ahh and gauss is right.. as far as i can comprehend that
but hey what am i speaking.. this is some nice idear .. oh lets wait.. some wired evil stunning polycountisch idear /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
02-10-2007, 03:03 AM
Whaaaaaat, this is going to be crazy sickness. Looks good, I'm kinda wondering what the extra leg extruding from the elbow is for? But then again you are pretty random at times so its not a suprise. That large blade with the poly symbol would be good for chopping off a couple thousand heads /images/graemlins/ooo.gif digging it. Looking forward to your progress, keep it up!
02-10-2007, 03:33 AM
looks like the leg is supporting the massive arm, which makes sense. i dig!
02-10-2007, 03:40 AM
Ahh, I see. Gotcha /images/graemlins/grin.gif
02-10-2007, 03:54 AM
Ok. Two words:
Thats the motherfucking SHIT right there.
ok that was six words, but i couldnt contain my exitement. very original idea with the arm, i'm sold! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
//edit: to counter out that shameless asspat, i'll just say that i dont like that sword thing at all.. i dont know what it is, but i think its the curve that makes it look silly and impractical. Loving the little greentooth tho, but i think you could do better than that with the shape of the sword.
02-10-2007, 04:45 AM
Oh, that is just stunning.
02-10-2007, 05:05 AM
killingpeople, so hot right now!
Amazing concept dude, way to raise the bar a million miles into the air. My most favourite entry by far.
buddy the designer
02-10-2007, 05:34 AM
One of best ideas in the contest!
02-10-2007, 06:02 AM
holy water, argh kp!
02-10-2007, 07:31 AM
Totally great concept kp!
02-10-2007, 07:51 AM
Form following function. I love it.
02-10-2007, 01:52 PM
Yeah, its tough. I'm at work right now (saturday). I'm only getting sunday this week for any real time to work on mine.
Its looking really cool and different/original KP!
02-10-2007, 04:12 PM
dang I love your stuff man. Keep it up. This is gonna be a popular thread after that dude you made.
02-10-2007, 04:52 PM
That's inspiring dude. Love the gun.
great one man, love the gun too!
02-11-2007, 05:29 AM
02-11-2007, 05:49 AM
hahaha.. you have no idea how happy i was to be proven wrong about how much steam you had left in you /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
i still stand by my talk of switching up processes if you're getting tired, but i think that concept proves well enough that you had some steam and then some. that, kids, is what winning entry-level concepts look like. though it's great to see him all rendered up, with or without the deluxe KP treatment this guy looks the part--a real juggernaut of a fighter.
oh, and since last i've seen, your meshwork is looking a lot crisper, too KP--good to see work has been as good to your skills as your skills have been good your work /images/graemlins/smile.gif
02-11-2007, 07:58 AM
you just put some ketchup on it.
02-11-2007, 08:38 AM
"damn i'm going through a lean patch... oh wait, why don't i shit out a masterpiece!"

02-14-2007, 11:51 PM
02-14-2007, 11:54 PM
That's looking really nice dude. Awesome shape and feel.
02-14-2007, 11:56 PM
Looks like a good start. Those are some crazy ears.
02-15-2007, 01:33 AM
/images/graemlins/smile.gif Your character is my favourite so far... youre doing a great work.
02-15-2007, 02:29 AM
nice basehead, way to keep it all quads. especially since you're apparently doing it in your sleep /images/graemlins/laugh.gif GOGOGO
02-15-2007, 03:47 AM
Yea, nice start on your models facial features. I'm digging those double guaged ears but most of all the shape of his jaw.
02-15-2007, 08:52 AM
jordan_nichols13/WickedFingers.jpg? hmm, that name sounds familiar... hi man! /images/graemlins/wink.gif
02-15-2007, 10:27 AM
you smell like cabbages
and so does your modelling
02-15-2007, 10:28 AM
killingpeople: looking Great, but why the closed eyes?
02-15-2007, 11:22 AM
brett asked me the same thing ultra, i am trying to see if baking the normal maps this way would make the eyelids look better. the half life 2 character models bothered me when they shut their eyes - i'm also guessing it might make the folds look more natural... it's just something experimental in the name of science! i figure it shouldn't fuck too much up - here's hoping.
02-15-2007, 12:38 PM
looks cool,, the face reminds me a lot of this dude http://www.tmhunt.com/wip/batista.jpg
the sack of crap talentless batista, but the facial features are a lot similiar
02-15-2007, 01:12 PM
KP's guy is undoubtidly much kooler lookin though and will not take it from the rear.
Keep going KP, I'm eagerly watching this one /images/graemlins/smile.gif
02-15-2007, 01:30 PM
02-15-2007, 09:12 PM
Rhinokey is totally right, that looks a lot like Batista. Which is awesome, he has a very intimidating face.
02-15-2007, 10:28 PM
Hey man looking awesome, all you dudes work so fast. it reminds me a little of Kratos from the God of War game. Which is actually a compliment since Kratos is one bad ass MOFO..
Keep going man, I got my dollars on you.
02-15-2007, 10:45 PM
kp i love you again!
02-16-2007, 12:36 PM
Yea, I knew my avatar would give it away sooner or later. I told Evan I had plans to scramble with your brain and make you think I totally hated your art work but I guess you foiled it... I've been working on a large 3 canvas oil painting but once thats done I'm gonna start posting my concepts and 3d work. Glad to see your doing well at Iron Lord. Keep kicking ass on your model, it's looking great. Talk to ya lata. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif
02-16-2007, 12:55 PM
this thread is full of awsome... i need to find a sponge D:
02-25-2007, 03:35 AM
here's a down-date! base mesh close to modelled.
damn, look at the time.. about the head i sculpted? yeah.. mudbox did this thing that made me save my mudbox scene file as 'crobinson.mud'. i couldn't save it as anything else. that's A.
my brian, isn't the best. so i didn't stop to think about it when saving a play sculpt scene as 'crobinson.mud'. that's B.
A + B = /images/graemlins/frown.gif
so, i'll have to resculpt that head of mine. so, hopefully it will be cooler /images/graemlins/smile.gif
02-25-2007, 03:38 AM
redoing stuff is always for a best result ! The base mesh is looking great man ! Keep it up /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Nice base mesh man! That's one truly kick ass character. Agreed with Renaud, you always do something best the second time.
02-25-2007, 11:48 AM
Looking good, KP.
Hmm, I never noticed that Kratos had band-aids on his face. That kind of sucks.
02-25-2007, 09:02 PM
Looking good KP.
That sucks about the mudbox thing. I didn't use mudbox on my entry for that exact type of thing, Because i have not used it before (fully) and i always learn the hard way. And i'm pushed for time on my character as it is - i didn't want to run into anything strange like you did. You'll have to give me a little run down on mudbox around GDC time.
Anyways.. second time around will be awesome. Looking forward to seeing it.
03-11-2007, 01:36 PM
this is one of my favorite characters, i hope you finsh.
03-19-2007, 05:43 PM
come on man, i want to see this thing at least sculpted. This was such an awesome concept.
anyway, great meeting you at gdc man, keep up the good work.
03-19-2007, 06:47 PM
man, you don't have time for such global changes, hurry up!
03-19-2007, 07:32 PM
I hope you find the time to finish this, KP; it remains one of my favorite concepts.
