just browsed bluesnews and saw that lucas will use middleware technology for advanced material effects (specifcally breakables)
they have an exclusive deal for a year or so

the company has some infos and an interesting video up

very cool stuff. it'll be interesting to see how they further refine and develop the technology of breakable materials. it's analogous to the development of visual material properties, in that when things were just first starting out all materials had the same "read" (and still do, like the normal-mapping engines that make everything look like shiny plastic). similar to that, right now it seems they've only got one style of breakable, which seems to be a mostly brittle shattering type, which really doesn't make sense at all for that fort that gets destroyed. still, one step at a time--if you could really have stuff shattering like that in a game, it would be impressive.

This news combined with the story of LucasArts + NaturalMotion's Euphoria has some very cool possibilies! I really hope something groundbreaking comes of this.

Awesome. Good news. I suppose lightsaber (or whip!)-friendly interfaces like the Wii won't hurt either.
