worth it?
Lightwave and cinema 4d are the only programs on the mac that export to shockwave director
anyone with low poly modeling experience on these programs have any tips?

friend of mine is using it for our gamestuff (lowpoly), and coded his own UV Tools, as without bodypaint it doesnt come natively with such tools.
It looks "easier" to get into, but imo is not so well for gameart, lightwave has more of a trackrecord on dealing with games.
friend just says c4ds modules makes it cheaper, ie buy basic program and bodypaint... there is a demo for c4d (with all features, bodypaint...) just try it

Ask in CGChat, there's a diehard user over there.

My mate Paul has been a massive fan for years - he owns a copy and swears it was worth every penny.
I've sent him a link to the thread, I dunno if he will bother registering just to post, but he might email me his thoughts.

Two years ago I visited a further education and we had to learn Cinema 4D before we went on and learn Maya. It was version 8.5 which can simulate Maya´s viewport controlls (ALt and Mouse Buttons). Quad modelling was a little bit difficult and it remembers me of Problems with Edit Poly in old 3Ds Max versions. But I guess with version 9 they solved this and now Cinema 4d has "real" Quadpoly Modelling methods too.
And yes, I would recommend to get Bodypaint with Cinema 4D.

On the other side, if you are searching for a "cheap" way to export shockwave 3d data on a Mac you can try to use Carrara 5 by Evovia. Here is a link to the feature list:

Try it and see if it can do what you need, a demo is available here:

C4D SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! It is annoying as all hell to work in, especially model in. Its selection tools and poly tools are ass backwards retarded, I hate this program. I had to work in it for a year and a half, and when I quit my last job where i had to use it, I swore a blood oath to god never to ever touch that program again. Its just my opinion, but if C4D were a person, I would torture it to death very slowly over the course of 40 or 50 years.

It's a nice modelling/rendering package that is generally well liked.
I'm sure Paul won't mind me pimping his ri..c4d gallery.

All C4D renders. The winged demon was built in Silo, the fairytale scene was C4D. I think the fairytale was built around the spring of 2004.

cheers for that I'll give that a shot! Seems to have a shit load of low poly modelling features actually. Which is exactly what I need.
shockwave should have made their own eh? modelling and uv mapping only, nothing fancy.
Weiser_Cain cinema 4d has been around since the days of lightwave and amigas. I guess it could even be older than max (but not 3d studio...?)
Many people (like me) have thrown it into the same bargin bucket as Vista, Bryce and Poser.

i think cinema4d is the successor or a spin-off to monzoom/reflections, an amiga package that dates back at least to the late eighties. in that case, it would overall be older than lightwave. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

It's a little clunky at time yes, but you can bend it to your will /images/graemlins/wink.gif I basically make it work like Maya and XSI and it's fantastic. Bodypaint it rather annoying to work with tho, I still do all my unwrapping with Maya (love the UV tools)

I thought Maya could export to Shockwave? It's in the included plug-in list (as of version 6). Not the cheap way out, though.

Of course the C4D is always a little bit in back of 3DS MAX and MAYA ( probably even LIGHTWAVE ),but I'm saying that CINEMA 4D is very cool 3D software.
I like work with.

modelling under CINEMA 4D 9 , uvw and texturing is done under BODY PAINT 2.
