hello guys. Currently fiddlng with maya at work and I want to unwrap some stuff. I thought, UVhelp would be the max version of RelaxUVs from Maya, but I get constantly bad results. Long story short, is there a UVhelp tool for Maya?
Thanks for any help, Maya drives me mad...
Errr, try changing the Relax UV's settings, I think the defaults are stupid ones. Maya's Relax UV works better and faster than UVHelp when the settings are right.

it doesnt work at all. It screws up the UV, I tried a lot of setting. It just dont work.
Normally I have a mesh, I toss oder a planarmap, thenUvhelp and it works out fine. In Maya, nope....
Maybe I didnt got something to know?!

Old post Whargoul wrote on unwrapping in Maya.
What I usually do in Maya is set up some seams by selecting edges then using Cut UVs, then I use Select Shell to get the individual UV chunks, use "Map Edge Border" to flatten it out (works with most shapes, not all though), then hit Relax UVs and it's pretty much done. Sometimes needs some tweaking of the border to get things nicely aligned, but I never had a problem with it.

ok got it. Hopefully this works on other objects too.
I had to freeze the transforms (equivalent to "reset Xforms"?) and tweak a bit. Thanks moppy.

Usually in maya it helps to freeze transfroms and delete history all the time.

Maya7 has unfold as well now, so if your map uv boarder and relax uv's fails, you can try unfolding. Make sure you prepare your mesh correctly by cutting uv edges to create a boarder for the tool to unwarp to.

We use Maya 6.5 here in a special, for us, version... So no unfold UVs....

I'll have to try your trick MoP, I usually end up using the paint selection tool to planar map strips of the mesh and then stich that together, low distortion but really slow sometimes.
