saw this on cgchat. Kicks ass Gok. maybe you could give him some alpha toe claws. that would be cool.
Tip: Set a camera to the correct distance that will best represent the size of your character on screen. It'll help a lot in figuring out where you need to add/take away your polygons. Your sprite art seems like a good size.
thats a cool idea, ill do that /images/graemlins/smile.gif thanks
Jody
sprite art..? ohhh i should have said thats a nintendo asset not mine im just doing a low poly model of it... with my own twist

oh yea bro, no worries...my comment wasn't really a total crit...although i like to see stuff that is "complete," stuff like this is awesome too, and looks fairly good, as you did /images/graemlins/smile.gif
i wanna see it done, start skinning, gogogo

Wouldn't it be useful to add some spikes to the tail? And wouldn't 3 sided spikes on the shell be sufficient?
cheers guys.. ok reason for open geometry is portable consoles like the ds cant handle bones and other advants stuff like that so this type of geometry would animate beter (its given that this model would be to heavy and has to big a texture for ds and psp but hey /images/graemlins/smile.gif about the spikes yehh if i make the 3 sided i could add some more tris elswhere! like the tail spikes.. cheers /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
thanks

well, you could have him boned.... I'm 99% sure that mario 64DS have boned main characters, and I'm guessing a 128x128 texture for them spread over several 8 colour textures...
good work so far though, he is recognisably King Koopa/Bowser /images/graemlins/smile.gif
ohh ok /images/graemlins/smile.gif it saves polys then /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hm, I remember hearing claims that bones are actually less ressource draining than vertex animation (less animation data, one matrix transformation per bone rather than one linear interpolation per vertex) and consoles cannot handle vertex animation but I guess that was talking about current gen...
it is only a comp... im not actualy going to put it on the machine.. it save me some polys to model it like this, and i only had 512. but yehh your probably right.
Jody
I started texturing mot 100% with this.. but ill leave it for tonight anyway o_O .hey poop i might even finish this /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I likes the style. I would like to see him a little more sickly.
It's looking cool. I'd look into pinching some polies from his shell to give him feet.

no yellow underbelly?
also tribal tattoos always help to make things look evil
Hey thanks chaps..
-Todd, mate im a fan of your work /images/graemlins/smile.gifglad you like it but im not sure what you mean by "more sickly" ? sorry could you explain..
-Soul, i like the feet idea, but i dont really want to loose any polys in his shell... /images/graemlins/frown.gif
-Shady, Ill get the stomach done once i get the general mass painted in.. not sure about the tats though.. ill try it and see what it looks like!
Thanks again guys

I see you have made the spikes 4 sided, make them 3 sided and you'll have enough for some feet.

looks really cool, but he looks more like a teenage koopa, not really the king yet. i think hes a bit too trimmed down. definatly cool, i have just always thought of koopa as a big chunck of mass.
heh cheers, they are 3 sided actualy just not in the origional shot at the top /images/graemlins/smile.gif mabey he does need some chunking up...?
Jody
i think im gonna add to this once its finnished mabey give him another 64*64 for a fire ball and mouth.. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif here what i did tonight... to tired to finnish it just now.. too much work still to do. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

if you make the toes 3 sided cones its 6x3= 18 polys
really cant squeeze out 18 polys for the toes?
nope no polies left sorry mate... although once its been juged for the comp im gonna add another 64*64 for extra details , fireball and mouth... and i may add those extra pollys too cheers

I'd still say the belly and mouth could be more yellow. Ok, it doesn't look as evil, but he's a bit too green.
yehh your right he needs a little more colour variation, ill do it tonight. cheers pal
Jody
I vote for more sharper edges, and more values in ur colors. more colors in shadows/highlight would increase the values and make it POP!
I always say that but hEY! when it POP! it win!

Hmm the front of the feet look odd, going backwards like this. There has to be some area to stand on, and that is usually bigger than the legs.
Just move the front bottom vertex forward until the edge slopes forward and not backwards.

Some more defined yellows in the chest plate might help, and yeah if B1ll suggests more contrast I'd listen to the man.

Only if you want some over contrast, over pixelated b1ll lookalike crap, that somehow still looks amazingly well done /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Perhaps a few scratches on the shell or chest would work?
The claws on the hind legs need to be modeled. Bowser is pretty much a dragon with a shell, he has big, clawed feet (and clawed hands...). Take one edge off every spike or something but model his claws.

I'd say throw some darker darks and lighter lights in his shellwork. It'd make the individual scales pop a bit more. As they are now, they look a bit shallow and thin. Like they wouldn't really protect him, much.

that is super cool
hey guys tons of replys hers and ill take all of the crits on board!some point just now though...
B1ll - yes deffinatly! the contrast in all the parts bellow the head is not good enough and the colours need work still.
JKMakowka - about making the feet slope back.. i disagree i think this would make him look clumsy and less sleek.
Steakhouse - i know what you mean about the yellow as the origional did but iv been experimenting with some yellows and i didnt like it..
KDR_11k - yehh totaly about the scratches thats a great idea im gonna do cracks in the shell where the spikes are comming through.
Xenobond - yep /images/graemlins/wink.gif
The3DGuy - cheers mate
hey thanks for all the help guys !!
