View Full Version : Challenge #18 Normal Mapped Mega-Weapon

This challenge will be left very open to allow for creativity and experimentation. You pick the theme, style and design. This could be a first person view rocket launcher to a medieval catapult, as long as it is a weapon.
3000 triangles at the most.
3x512x512 texture limit (example: one normal, one spec and one diffuse map)
additional maps for glow, effect, etc are allowed
This challenge be the full month of September, beginning Thursday, September 1st and ends Friday, September 30th. Post WIP in your own thread, and final submissions may be posted here or in a designated final submissions thread.
I'm planning a trebuchet and a battering ram. mainly cause they're both somewhat simple and I can throw some fancy design in to make them look more special. Also thinking I might do a seige tower, but that i'm not too sure if it fits into the catagory.

3000 polys and only a 512? Thats sounds a little silly to me, if you're doing a 3000 poly gun you should have atleast a 1024 especially given a month to finish it.
Ill probably be doing this one, most likely.

I might join in for the first time, since I got plenty of time next month (just finished my Bachelors degree, and the Master doesn't start till october).
I will probably do a really beefed-up sniper rifle, but NOT sci-fi beefed up. Maybe a bit lame considering the topic is 'MEGA-WEAPON' but I was planning to do one anyways, so I might as well submit it.

eq: Go for it! I was browsing through the doom3 weapons textures, and saw nothing over a 512 so I left it at that. I considered limiting the polycount to 1000 triangles, but figure people could have more fun with little more. I challenge you to take advange of a full 1024. :þ

Thats fine, im too used to painting 1024s and 2048s to be happy with the quality i can get with only a 512.
