Wacom painting question

I recently got a intuos3 and it hasnt really been working the way i want...mostly when i watch the vid tutorials on this site, it almost seems like the harder the darker it is and vice versa, not to mention if they dont press hard it always keeps the same diamater of the selected brush size...

When i paint in PS and have a big brush size if i press lightly it will paint much smaller than the brush size...and im not really seeing a difference in color contract contrast by pressing hard or soft, it seems the same either way...

Am i doing something wrong?

Nothing is wrong, you just have PS setup diffently than the person in the tutorial.

In the upper right of PS, there is a Brush tab. In there you will see a option for "shape dynamics". You probally have Pen Pressure setup to control the size jitter. If you don't want that just set the control to off. Now to make pen pressure control opacity instead. Click the check box next to "other dynamics", then change the opacity jitter to be controled by pen pressure.
