you must have been a big fan of interstate 76 when it came out, right? cause the main character drives a cuda in that game... and that was my choice car for multi, come to think of it.

/me goes off to look for a used cuda

gauss.. i still remember sitting in Jack in the Box with my dad, thumbing through the latest PCGamer, when I came to the article about I76... the rest was history (though I never beat the game cause my discs went AWOL due to a classmate). I loved that the 'game disc' was also a cd of tunes you could play in your car. And we're currently in the process of restoring my dad's (someday to be mine) 1970 plymouth barracuda convertible (back to the original sub-lime color).

taking a little break from animating and working on this. getting the geometry in then stripping it down to a reasonable poly count. Trying a new technique and liking it. And yes I'm aware of the shading issue.

Some new levels, and some new eye candy for my engine. I always liked the Q3A "glass", so I made a very similar type shader effect and hardcoded it into the engine. Next I will implement true shader scripts.

Both models looking RAWK. The blue material the engineer is wearing confuses me a bit though, at first I thought it was denim but then upon closer examination it looked more like a sequin ensemble. Turning down the white highlights (especially on his ass) would fix it. Great work.

God i love your textures so much ruz O.o so clean. Can we see a flat?

Ruz
10-29-2004, 03:50 PM
PlatSajack - I would suggest you try and go slightly lower in poly count, try and get the form of the mesh more accurate, before you start putting in the more detailed stuff.
You can always add more detail later when you are happy with the form. get lots of reference also

n30g3n3s1s - Thanks, will post the flats soon. Actually the flats don't look so hot, but the model seems to be carrying most of the detail.

Whoa, Scoob, that guy's muscles are insanely defined ... I don't think the ribcage area should be that sharply defined either. Good start though, I just reckon if it's a "generic" human, you should tone down the muscles a bit - leave enough detail to define them, but don't go overboard and make him a ridiculous bodybuilder, IMHO that look is just weird /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Welcome to the boards DCon /images/graemlins/smile.gif Cool model, though it lacks creativity in all ways. Looks to me like an Unreal Tournament Juggernaut with personal addons at various places. Solid mesh, cool render. Are you going to skin it yourself?

Hi JBoskma

He is a lot like the juggernaut, hints I am using the juggernauts biped skeleton. I like that class of characters in the game and wanted to make my own character that fix right into the games theme. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Here is a pose shot…

Yeah, I know - but its not an algorithm design, its just an exercise our professor gave us in probability and combinatorics. i.e. coming up with an exact proof for something that is common sense.

you could use some more colour in the fonts , maybe try to make the eye follow the composition more on the layout ... other than that it looks great.

Starting in on a new model (god it's good to be modeling) based of this characture of myself as a little kid. As a bit of a background so you can understand what the hell is going on when I was a little kid I wanted to be a fighter pilot and my favorite movie was top gun. I watched that movie all the time and when I did I used to put on my dads old football helmet (it was missing the face guard) and his filter mask (which I pretended was my fighter pilot mask) and I had a toy joystick and I pretended I was maverick. Cute as hell I know.

Wires:
http://www.mattnicholson.myby.co.uk/3d/environ/dpwiretn.gif (http://www.mattnicholson.myby.co.uk/3d/environ/dpwires.gif)

The box only came to 40 polys before I added the locks & hinges, but it does look more realistic with those small details added. Not sure if it's worth the extra 168 polys, mind you...

Oh, and what shotgun?

MoP
11-30-2004, 04:43 PM
Noisybast: Those might as well be textured on. I honestly couldn't tell if they were modelled or textured in the screenshot - and in that case, you might as well texture, eh?
I usually only spend polys on stuff that will change the silhouette of the model from any angle by a certain amount, tiny details like that are just unneccessary, any player would walk right past that in a game without a second glance at the modelled detail...

MAUL0r
11-30-2004, 04:45 PM
i don't think you need that many polys for some tiny details like that, they could even be 5 sided cylinders and still pop out the way you'd like... dont you think? just a thought.

[edit: after looking at the locks closer i see why you wanted so many sides... but if you look at HL2 they didn't even bother to model that kind of stuff.]

Here is my giraffeman progress. Just working out the nurny bits, haven't really touched the actual "skin"

nice work, love the color variation in the eye/cheek area.

Still working on this one. Custom model for UT2K4. Planning on Custom animations as well. Got the opacities, and the colors about right, A little unsure about the fur texture though.

Full turn around

http://www.rdwarf.com/edbado/Unfriendly/Polycount/lupineturn-th.jpg (http://www.rdwarf.com/edbado/Unfriendly/Polycount/lupineturn.jpg)

3379 Triangles, and planning on another 1000 or so for the "team Skin" items, wither armour or equipment or some sort of costumery.

I am unsure as to wahat direction to go with the costumery, though whether it should be tribal, ancient, modern, or Near Future. Suggestions?

Really nice expressive model there JBoskma. It's got a really nice sculpted feel about it aswell with a good solid "chunky" feel about it /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Not too sure about the pores and skin marks on the last render though - it kind of takes away from the cartoony feel in my opinion.

Scott: I reckon Tribal stuff would work well with this model. Also a bit of a break from the norm these days, I think ... everything's futuristic or fantasy... give that wolf some real-world tribal get-up!

mr.toast

worked on it a bit more, added more fine details, took alot of time to get it to look the way it is now, i could use one of those tablets

MoP Thanks for the suggestion. I 'll use the turn around as the basis for a Photoshop turn around to explore some concepts. Thanks.

Mr.Toast Skin tones and skin texture looks good. About the only suggestion I would suggest is to revisit the eyes. The outside corner of the eye it slightly above the inside corner of the ey, so that tears, and the duct that may get into the eye, get moves to the tear suct at the corner with blinking action. The sharpest corner you have on the inside side of the eyes are a corner up towards the brow and brisge of the nose. Revisi that, and you will have a nicer basis for blinks and expressions.

Wow lordscottish, that is looking really nice indeed. I love the specular.

LordScottish
12-12-2004, 10:27 AM
thanks! The tip is supposed to be very dark metal, not entirely black. But I was lazy and thought it will be very small ingame anyways /images/graemlins/smile.gif
unfortunately I couldn't draw separate specular maps because of the engine. So they are all painted on the diffuse map. The "trick" of doing them is making them in 2 separate layers: one blurred rather large highlight, scratched a bit with the eraser. then the second where you paint randomly almost white points in the brightest areas with a 1pixel brush. Sometimes I set the layers on colordodge, this gives some color variation /images/graemlins/smile.gif
