  • Big News Sketchfab Integration

May 19, 2013 by Sean VanGorder

Tired of showing off your models with plain old 2D images like some sort of caveman? Well we have teamed up with the guys at Sketchfab to put an end to that. Now when creating a post on Polycount, you will find a new button that will allow you to embed Sketchfab’s viewer and display your work in full 3D.

Of course, this will require registering an account on Sketchfab and uploading your models. Sketchfab currently offers the following features to members…

    • Free registration
    • Unlimited uploads
    • Accepts all regular materials and shaders: textures, normal maps, specular, diffuse, bump, transparency…
    • 27 native 3D formats supported
    • Plugins available to publish directly from the major 3D packages (Max, Maya, Blender…)
    • Big models supported (Currently models above 5 million polys)
    • HDR environments for image-based lighting and reflection
    • And a lot more to come!

A big thanks to the Sketchfab team and to Seth (cheeseplus) for getting this up and running!

      Now this…..this is awesome.

It's worth noting that the 3d browser shouldn't initialize until it is clicked on. Otherwise the WAYWO thread would quickly succumb to a sluggish demise on some folks' connections lol.

    20. Mr_Drayton on May 20, 2013 at 2:34 am

Hey, it kinda works from mobile too. From iPhone, it lets me see a prerendered turntable of the model. Quite cool!

    21. Macrow on May 20, 2013 at 3:13 am

Great! Finally! I've started to see this implemented in other forums, and I was wondering how long it'd be until we see it here. Now I can better put my Sketchfab account to full use. Sketchfab and Polycount are a match made in digital heaven!

    22. Lloydyy89 on May 20, 2013 at 4:01 am

This will be very useful. I've posted a few sketchfab models but they've required embed using bbcode. Now there's a button dedicated to that? Cool beans. :)

    23. nightFlarer on May 20, 2013 at 4:21 am

The button is not doing anything for me D:

    24. cptSwing on May 20, 2013 at 4:48 am

    27. EmAr on May 20, 2013 at 9:02 am

Great news but I cannot make the button work either :/ Tried with Firefox 21.0 and IE 10.

    28. Sketchfab on May 20, 2013 at 9:10 am

Hi Polycount folks, for those of you for whom it's not working, the reason should just be that you need to empty your cache. You can try as an incognito window as well to see how it goes. Preferred browsers are Chrome and Firefox. Keep up the good work!

    29. EmAr on May 20, 2013 at 9:51 am

I installed Chrome and it works now. This is cool :)

    30. travisdreams on May 20, 2013 at 10:12 am

this is one of the best ideas ever to implement in forums! :D

    31. Lloydyy89 on May 20, 2013 at 12:02 pm

If you use the [SKETCHFAB][/SKETCHFAB] tags and then after /show/ on the models page, copy and paste that in between the tags and that works. Quick work around for anyone who's having problems with the button. :)
