  • News Steam has added 3D applications

    October 2, 2012 by r13

The long rumored applications section of Steam has gone live. It, ironically enough from our own point of view, is stocked first with 3D apps.

The full list can be found here, Software of Steam, but it notably has 3D-Coat in there already, along with ArtRage and a couple versions of GameMaker: Studio, including a free one. Speaking on costs, this is Steam of course, all the apps are 10% off across the board at the moment.

Dear god, first games, now apps? How long until steam is an OS? How soon before we kneel before GabeN?

I'd be cool with kneeling before GabeN

This is indeed quite interesting. Hopefully this will bring games and 3d software closer together :D

My hope for software(and maybe this will help – who knows) is that you can pick and choose features more and hopefully that could do something for the outlandish prices.

The price for 1 maya software + licence is rediculous, especially when all you wanna do is model, uv, texture and rig.

Looking forward to the promotion of photoshop alternatives. Paint Shop Pro, Drawplus and Painter could certainly benefit from the exposure.

Soooo… how does this work exactly? The same way as with the games – with Steam being on all the time because the software is locked to it and no way to resell your software license?
