  • Big News The Team-Fortress 2 ‘Polycount Pack’ Winners

    July 15, 2010 by adam

We’ve managed to wrangle Valve in their ‘Valve-time’ slipstream long enough to catch the names of the 5 Winning entries to the first ever Polycount Pack for Team-Fortress 2.

Members of the Polycount Community were given 5 weeks to come up with a SET of items for one of the 9 different TF2 classes. These sets had to be within the same theme, and fit well within the TF2 universe. In total, some 70 sets were completed and entered (read: thats at least 210 items!) It’s no wonder they had their work cut out for them when choosing the first ever pack.

And as a special treat, everyone who entered the contest will be getting a Polycount Pin, which will be released when the Polycount Pack is released. In addition, a few individuals who contributed to the contest greatly, but did not enter the contest themselves, will also be given a Polycount Pin. It’s Valve’s way of thanking you for helping the rest of the entries become even stronger.

Out of the 70 or so entries that Valve received, Robin tells me that nearly half of the entries are of a high enough quality to be shipped in future updates without much work needed on Valve side. So, if you did not win this time around you can be confident that your items will one day find there way in to Team Fortress 2.

    The ‘Polycount Pack’ Winners

Narrowing it down to 5 sets for you to eventually unlock in Team Fortress 2 (the release date is unknown but coming in the close future) the winners of the first ever Polycount Pack are, in no particular order:

    Larolaro’s ‘TANK BUSTER’ Pack

    Spetch’s ‘THE SPECIAL DELIVERY’ Pack

    Progg’s ‘THE GAS MAN’ Pack

Chemical Alia’s ‘THE SAHARAN SPY’ Pack

    nrek’s ‘CROC-O-STYLE’ Pack

CONGRATULATIONS guys – these packs are amazing! (And I personally can’t wait to get them all.)

The first ever Polycount Pack was a HUGE success – especially for Polycounts first ever major contest. Be proud of yourselves!

Be sure to check out the TF2 blog regularly for the Polycount Pack’s release!

      RIP Polycount.

Also, I wish Steam finally allowed Paypal in the Netherlands. So I could finally buy TF2.

Swizzle didn't win? WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO? Nice job to everyone who participated/won. Also RIP pc servers.

    7. Jackablade on July 15, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Nice work, ladies and gents. All deserving winners.

Here's hoping we see a few more of the cool entries pop up individually in updates in the not too distant future.

    8. Ikimono on July 15, 2010 at 5:21 pm

I'm going to stick the required hand out and ask:

"Hey, Where are the other 4 packs? 9 winners were supposed to be chosen!"

    9. MegaMoogle on July 15, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Wow, Polycount is really getting bogged down. And also, you mislabeled Nrek's Croc-O-Style kit, thought I'd point that out, so he can get the credit he so deserves. Nice job everyone!

    11. adam on July 15, 2010 at 6:50 pm

I would keep this in mind: These are the original 5 for the Polycount Pack picked by Valve. The other -great- entries received will eventually be released for Team Fortress 2.

    12. adam on July 15, 2010 at 6:51 pm

Where did you see 9 winners would be announced?

    13. Mico27 on July 15, 2010 at 7:04 pm

Even tough I was kind of expecting not to win, I hope some of my items will make it trough some other community update.
Plus we all get a polycount badge!

      Also congratulation to the winners!

    14. Damo on July 15, 2010 at 7:29 pm

Congrats, must have been very hard for the tf2 team to pick these five gems from the pile pile of similarly beautiful gems.

    15. Ryswick on July 15, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Is there any idea when the update will go live?

    16. Two Listen on July 15, 2010 at 8:42 pm

Congratulations to all, it was a pleasure watching this stuff come together – so thanks everyone for sharing.

Look forward to picking some of these up in-game.

    19. Monkeez on July 15, 2010 at 9:56 pm

Congratulations to the winners, you deserve it.

It would be nice to know whether your items were one of the ones considered good enough to ship in a future update :S.

    20. Two Listen on July 15, 2010 at 10:32 pm

Oh – I would like to make note, the "click here for more information link" for nrek's Sniper submissions links to Chemical Alia's submissions instead.

    21. Thegodzero on July 15, 2010 at 10:52 pm

      Huge Congrats to the winners!

    22. mradamw on July 15, 2010 at 11:21 pm

Congrats guys – cant WAIT to be running around with this new gear :)

    23. EVIL on July 16, 2010 at 12:45 am

congrats to the winners, those are some very strong entry's!

    24. Konras on July 16, 2010 at 12:58 am

Some may say that those entries deserved victory, some may say they didn't. Although no one can say those are ugly, weakly designed or bad presented. Instead I must say that all of those entries are really fantastic, and probably fit well with Valves future plans. To bad not every class had their winning pack, and there were no comments from Valve connecting those items (like in propaganda contest they shortly described chosen posters). At the end I just want to say that hopefully some of us learned something during this contest and that is what matters the most :)
      CONGRATS ALL!

    25. McLovin_Master on July 16, 2010 at 3:18 am

I don't yet actually own TF2 (really wish I did), so I need to know. Will I still get the Polycount Pin after I get the game (no idea when), or will it be lost forever?

    26. Skamberin on July 16, 2010 at 3:36 am

Congrats to the winners! Fuck the steam forums for flooding PC :D !

    27. McLovin_Master on July 16, 2010 at 3:51 am

Scratch previous comment. Checked out TF2profiles.com and it says I have one new item in backpack (doesn't show pic I know what it is) even though I don't have the game.

    28. Khthon on July 16, 2010 at 3:54 am

Badges to non-submitters who helped a lot? So Sparkwire then!

    29. Khthon on July 16, 2010 at 3:55 am

Oh, and Psyke for all the kill icons I reckon.

Hugggggee congrats to all who participated, I've seen some really awesome and very inspirational work from everyone who entered.

      Weopweop congrats to all!

    32. BANG! on July 16, 2010 at 6:07 am

Crongrats to the winners and the participants, i was a bit surprised by Valve's choice on the Spy and the Scout (i'd rather expect the Suburban pack), despite the majority of packs sticking to TF2 theme and style and their quality as suggested by th contest rules, seems like they choose for the most unrelated to TF2 style yet quite original and unique items.

Anyway it was a great contest learned a lot can't wait to play with some of these items =)

    33. Purplepaint on July 16, 2010 at 8:50 am

      Congrats to the winners :D

    34. Chemical Alia on July 16, 2010 at 10:25 am

Thanks for hosting an awesome contest, Polycount! It was amazing how much beautiful work was produced, and I'm looking forward to seeing it all in the future. :)

    35. Kirre on July 16, 2010 at 10:40 am

      Congratulations to the winners!
      Great work all of you.

Altho I'm a bit sad that Buck and ScudzAlmighty didn't win

      Anyway congrats everybody!

Congrats guys, although not adding some of the packs submitted (yet) is just criminal :(

      Really?? :O

    38. Karkasmolenklok on July 16, 2010 at 6:42 pm

Congratulations to the winners. I'm a bit disappointed with some of the decisions, specifically to leave out some of the brilliant inclusions from other classes (in particular engineer and medic) and I hope that they will come back and review these for future inclusion.

      Outstanding work all around gentlemen.

    39. Simmo on July 17, 2010 at 3:09 am

Congrats to the winners. Inspiring work, and hopefully all the other cubmissions get in eventually. They must have enough stuff to provide updates for years hehe

    40. Captain_Spaulding on July 17, 2010 at 8:32 am

"These five lucky individuals will soon receive the unbridled adoration of the TF2 community when we release their packs in an update."

"soon", so that means in 2 months I guess

    41. mkandersson on July 19, 2010 at 4:50 am

Congrats guys! Great looking TF2 packs
